Minecraft was released in 2011 by Mojang Studios. It’s a sandbox 3D game that continues to trend and gain more players as the years roll over. In 2023, the number of Minecraft players reached and exceeded 180 million. It lets you build, interact, and explore 3D structures.

You can be a solo player or multiplayer. Multiplayer allows you to play with close friends or international players. You can experience this by hosting or renting a Minecraft server, but we recommend the latter.

In this piece, we explore the benefits of renting a Minecraft server, what to consider before renting one, and how you can rent it.

Why You Should Rent a Minecraft Server?

You can play Minecraft for free on your computer as a solo player. Multiplayer options include hosting a local server on your computer and hosting it online (renting). The latter benefits more than playing for free or hosting a local server.

Benefits of renting a Minecraft server include:

It Costs Less

Hosting a server may seem like a good idea initially, but it’s expensive. You have to run your computer 24/7. It consumes a lot of electricity, costing you around $650 annually. However, there are affordable hosting providers like ScalaCube that offer hosting a Minecraft server for as low as $2 per month.

You Have Full Control Over Gameplay

Minecraft-shaders

You gain complete control over game rules. This means that you can adjust game settings to your liking. You can do this through in-game settings like adjusting resources, health, and damage. On top of that, you can enhance game difficulty and add creativity to game modes by creating new challenges.

It Has Low Latency and Allows Fast Connectivity

Compared to hosting, renting a Minecraft server allows you to play smoothly. It’ll enable fast connectivity speeds, and you won’t be distracted by buffering while playing. However, hosting a local server while relying on an internet service provider can result in a slow connectivity speed.

You can barely enjoy the game with low speeds due to constant “loading” distractions. This also uses a lot of bandwidth. As a result, you won’t be able to use your internet for anything besides hosting the Minecraft server and playing the game.

You Can Host More Players

Renting a Minecraft server means accessing a robust hardware machine that hosts many other players. It’s solely used to host the Minecraft game, so there’s no competition for its resources. As a result, there’s reduced lag and smoother gameplay for each hosted player.

It’s Available 24/7

As mentioned above, hosting a server means your computer has to be on 24/7. If it goes off for some reason, then you’ll find no players when you turn it on. You’ll have to start afresh with getting players back into gameplay.

When renting a server, on the other hand, its operation isn’t affected by you switching off your computer. It continues to run from the hosting service you’re renting, and you’ll find it running when you turn your computer on to return to the game.

Things to Consider When Renting a Minecraft Server

It’s essential to do your research before renting a Minecraft server. Like anything you spend your money on, it must work in your favor by covering most of what you’re looking for. These are the elements to consider when searching for a good Minecraft server:

Its Performance

The best Minecraft server service platforms are transparent about performance. This is made up of the RAM, CPU, and Bandwidth. These can determine whether you’ll have hiccups or smooth gameplay while renting the server.

RAM is Random Access Memory and influences the quantity of data the server can handle at once. It’s affected by the amount of players a server hosts. With enough RAM, you can load game elements quickly and have fewer lags or delays. So, it should be 2GB for one to two players, 5GB for two to six players, and 8GB for more than six players, and so on.

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It allows a quick navigation of game features, processes player actions fast, and the ability to use various game technologies simultaneously. It must be at least 2GHz or more for decent performance.

Bandwidth handles the transmission of data between the server and players. High bandwidth enables quick responsiveness and lower latency, allowing data to move swiftly between the parties. It should be at least 45 Mbit/s for six or more players.

The Costs

The rental cost of a Minecraft server varies with different providers. Prices are affected by the standard of the server and the resources that come with it. Some servers allow you to customize your servers to adjust their features to what you can afford. Others come with various tiers containing specific attributes that determine the price.

Most providers have monthly and annual billing plans. Annual billing plans are cost-effective and usually come with a discount. So, opting for an annual plan means you won’t have to worry about paying for a while and pay less than you’d have if you had opted for a monthly plan.

Customer Support

Check if the Minecraft server provider offers support. Ideally, this should be available 24/7 with quick, accurate responses that won’t distract or delay your gameplay.

How to Rent A Minecraft Server

Are you ready to rent a Minecraft server but aren’t sure how? Follow our steps below:

  1. Choose a Provider

Use the above qualities to choose a good Minecraft server provider.

  1. Select a Plan

You’ll find different plans with different features and prices. So, ensure you select the package that addresses your needs and is within your budget.

  1. Set Up the Server

To set up your Minecraft server, you have to:

  • Sign in to the provider’s site and navigate to the dashboard.
  • Install the Minecraft server.
  • Customize server settings, i.e., mode and difficulty.
  • Ensure that the server is accessible to other players before starting it.
  • Try connecting to the server on Minecraft to see if it’s working.
  • Let friends and other fellow players know about the server and how they can join it.

In Closing

Renting a Minecraft server is more beneficial than hosting one in many ways. It costs less and doesn’t need you to ensure your computer runs 24/7 to keep players who’ve joined worldwide. On top of that, you have control over gameplay, and you can choose a package with the player capacity you’re looking for.

You also won’t have to worry about connectivity speed, data processing, and transmission, as most providers ensure seamless gameplay by taking care of their performance elements.

Calling all Minecraft enthusiasts and builders extraordinaire, it’s that time of year again! Minecraft Live is back, and it promises to be a block-tastic event filled with exciting announcements, sneak peeks into the future of Minecraft, Minecraft Realms, Minecraft Dungeons and the eagerly anticipated Mob Vote.

Minecraft Live: A Blocky Extravaganza

Scheduled for October 15, Minecraft Live is set to be a thrilling hour-long spectacle that revolves around everything Minecraft. From the latest developments in the world of Minecraft to exciting revelations about Minecraft: Legends, this is a must-watch event for fans worldwide.

But perhaps the highlight of the show is the Mob Vote. For those unfamiliar, the Mob Vote is where you, the Minecraft community, get to have your say in what new creature joins the game. Your vote directly influences the development process, with the winning mob becoming part of the next major Minecraft update.

Mob Vote 2023: Choose Wisely

This year, the Mob Vote is making a triumphant return, bringing with it three brand-new mobs for you to choose from. These mysterious creatures are shrouded in secrecy for now, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the proceedings.

Last year’s victor was the Sniffer, a delightful ancient mob that had once been extinct. Now, this adorable creature roams the Overworld, sniffing out ancient seeds and winning hearts along the way. What wonders will this year’s contenders bring?

When and How to Cast Your Vote

Voting for your favourite mob is easier than ever before. This year, the voting window has been expanded, giving you over 48 hours to make your choice. It all begins at 1 pm EDT on Friday, October 13, and concludes at 1:15 pm EDT on Sunday, October 15. To find the exact time in your time zone, consult the provided tools because, let’s face it, too much math can be a real head-scratcher!

You can cast your vote within the game itself. Join the live event server on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition to make your voice heard. While there, you can also meet the adorable Tinies, take part in mini-games, and even try your hand at some mob parkour.

Alternatively, you can vote directly on Minecraft.net or through the Minecraft Launcher. Plus, the special event server will remain open for 24 hours after the conclusion of Minecraft Live, giving you an extra day to enjoy the festivities.

The Mob Lineup: A Mystery to Uncover

As for which mobs you can vote for, that remains a closely guarded secret. The Minecraft team is keeping their cards close to their chests until the beginning of October. However, they have hinted that clues might be scattered throughout various articles, so it might be worth your while to explore and discover what lies in store.

Save the Date

Mark your calendars for October 15, and be sure to tune in to Minecraft Live. The show kicks off at 1 pm EDT, and you can watch it on the official Minecraft YouTube channel or right here on Minecraft.net. If you’re unsure about the global showtime, fear not; there’s a handy tool to help you find out when the event begins in your region.

So, get ready to immerse yourself in the blocky wonderland of Minecraft and cast your vote for the next iconic mob. The Minecraft Live 2023 promises to be an event you won’t want to miss, whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a newcomer to the world of blocks and adventures.

[UPDATED] Minecraft is one of the most popular video games of all time, with millions of players around the world creating and exploring their own unique worlds. But for those who want to take their Minecraft experience to the next level, there’s Minecraft Realms – a subscription service that offers a wide range of benefits to players. But is it worth the investment? I have been subscribed since the world went into lockdown and wanted to share my experience.

What is Minecraft Realms?

First, let’s talk about what Minecraft Realms is. Minecraft Realms is a subscription service that allows players to create their own private servers for Minecraft. This means that you can invite your friends to play with you on your own server, without having to worry about other players intruding. This is by far the main reason people get a subscription. Players can create a persistent Minecraft world that exists even if they are not in it. Friends can drop in and out building, destroying, or role-playing. Realms also offer additional features such as automatic backups for peace of mind.

Some might find the 10-player limit a problem but my children never maxed out as different friends played together at different times.

Whilst one of the biggest benefits of Minecraft Realms is the ability to play with friends, it can also cause some upset. If one friend decides to go in and dynamite all your hard work, this can cause an issue so regular offline saves are advised.

Minecraft Realms also offers a wide range of free texture packs, which can be used to give your world a unique look. These packs are available to all subscribers and can be used to create everything from a medieval castle to a futuristic city.

The cost of Minecraft Realms varies depending on the subscription you choose. A monthly subscription in the UK costs £7.99 and in the US is $7.99, while a three-month subscription costs £22.99 / $22.99. This can be considered as a reasonable price, especially when compared to the cost of buying texture packs separately. Buying texture packs separately can cost between £2 and £5.

What’s the Catch

Minecraft Realms won’t be for everyone and there are a handful of reasons why this might be the case. Firstly, Realms can uninvite inactive players meaning players will need to re-invite players after a while. Realms are also more expensive than other hosting servers. However, this is mainly for PC players and you will need some technical know-how to set it up. The official Minecraft Realms servers are still not moddable which is an instant no for those involved in the Minecraft modding community.

  • Soccer Fever
  • Space Craft
  • Super! Dreamland

So for me and my family (and my children’s friends), Minecraft Realms was a great investment. The ability to have my children play with their friends, easily switch between game modes and access various free worlds and texture packs make it a great value for the price. It’s also a great way to make sure your world is always safe and accessible, with automatic backups. If you or a family member is an avid Minecraft player, Minecraft Realms is definitely worth considering.

Canceled or expired Minecraft Realms face deletion

To prevent dormant worlds from accumulating dust, Realms that have been canceled or expired for 18 months will be deleted. So, if you haven’t checked in on your world lately, now’s the time!

There are two ways to reactivate a canceled or expired Minecraft realm:

  1. Renew your subscription by navigating to Settings > Subscriptions, and then click the “Renew” button for the Realm you want to reactivate.
  2. Download your world locally by entering your Realm, clicking on the “Edit World” button for the world you want to download, and then selecting the “Download World” option.

This decluttering process happens continuously. This means that when a Realm reaches the 18-month canceled or expired mark, it will be automatically deleted. If you have any questions regarding canceled or expired realms, please don’t hesitate to contact customer support here: Customer Support.

Minecraft 1.20: New features

Throughout the history of the cubic world, it is constantly being transformed. Some innovations disappear forever without receiving approval, while others remain in the game for a long time.

Minecraft version 1.20.0 also pleased the players with a lot of interesting innovations, including the appearance of several previously unseen creatures, as well as unique territories.

And to make the game process even more comfortable and convenient, you can use Shaders for Minecraft PE. They can transform and beautify the surrounding space.

Items

With the advent of new classes in Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.20.0, 1.20.30, and 1.20.31, the authors have added several new items that will be extremely useful for players.

For practicing archaeology and carefully extracting found objects, a special brush is perfect. It can be found in abandoned camps of scientists that will be generated throughout the territory.

archeology

Even more interesting things will be given to the player who decides to try himself as a miner. First of all, he will need a helmet with a flashlight.  It will allow you to light your way in dark caves.

By the way, to reduce the time that will be spent on mining, it is proposed to use a drill. Also, a special type of dynamite will allow you to carefully destroy part of the blocks, while not violating those that can lead to collapse.

Miner

Biomes

For players to be interested in exploring the surrounding space, developers are constantly introducing new biomes. Players can visit the beautiful and mysterious Mangrove Swamp in Minecraft PE 1.20.0, 1.20.30, and 1.20.31.

It is here that frogs live, which can create unique glowing blocks. Also, beautiful trees grow in the vastness of this area, which will be extremely useful to players.

frog

The fact is that not only wood but also the roots of these plants can be used for construction and in everyday life. By the way, the workflow can not be interrupted for the period of the night if you download Textures for Minecraft PE.

Players can make the night always bright or add unique lighting sources that will help them quickly cope with the necessary tasks. This can greatly facilitate the survival process.

Explore the possibilities of the new version of Minecraft 1.19.0. Amazing mobs, biomes, structures, and crafting await you.

Play in an updated world where there are no bugs. Mine resources in dark caves and interact with skulk blocks.

warden

Warden

Information about the mob appeared in version MCPE 1.17.41. But it wasn’t until Minecraft 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20 that Warden began to appear in the world.

To fight this monster one on one, you have to activate the acoustic sensor and then make noise.

Mob has a colossal size, which makes it incredibly dangerous. This is the strongest opponent in the game.

skulk

Sculk blocks

Previously, the blocks were only available in the dark depths in release Minecraft Bedrock 1.18.0.

However, with the update of Minecraft PE 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20, the blocks have become available in the deep dark city.

All objects have different textures and can react to the player.

frog

Frog

A cute mob who lives in the swamp in Minecraft 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20. Several types of frogs have been added to the game. The kind of creature depends on their swamp.

firefly

Firefly

Fireflies live in Minecraft PE 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20 in the swamp. The type of firefly does not depend on the region, so mobs everywhere will be the same.

The only use of these insects is food for frogs.

swamp

Mangrove Swamp

In Minecraft 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20 the area around the mangrove swamps is filled with mud blocks and trees. Here players can find mangrove trees and get new wood from them.

deep-dark

Deep Dark

Now in the biome, you will be able to find not only skulk blocks, but also deep dark cities. In Minecraft PE 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20 these structures are incredibly bulky and take up most of the territory.

boat

Boat with Chest

A good way to store resources. A boat with a chest holds many items. In addition, you can use this transport to move around the world in MCPE 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20.

darkness

Darkness

A special effect that appears in Minecraft 1.19.0, 1.19.10 and 1.19.20 is due to the lack of light. The darkness makes it difficult to see the area around you, so you may have difficulty.

Minecraft 1.18 Cave Update has a large number of different blocks, creatures, and things. Each of them has its texture. However, the same texture can be liked by one player and at the same time disliked by another.

This problem is solved by texture packs that change the appearance of everything around. Fortunately, there are quite a few of them. Therefore, each player will be able to find something for himself.

Minecraft texture packs

PvP

Survival in Minecraft 1.18 and 1.18.0 cannot do without PvP. After all, the player constantly has to fight with various enemy creatures. In addition, users often arrange various competitions among themselves, in which they fight with each other. It is also worth noting that the texture of the swords is quite large and can sometimes obstruct the view.

Therefore, an excellent solution would be to use the PvP Texture Pack. They shorten the length of the swords and make them more beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Fighting becomes more comfortable. Therefore, players often use similar texture packs.

Minecraft texture packs

Connected

As you know, in Minecraft 1.18 and 1.18.0, the textures are rather unrealistic. They resemble things from the real world. The advantage of this is that this way, the game can run on weaker devices.

But on powerful devices, this is a big disadvantage. In this case, you should use the Connected Texture Pack. This add-on completely changes the cube world and makes it very realistic.

Minecraft texture packs

FNaF

Fans of computer games are familiar with such a horror games as Five Nights ad Freddy’s. The plot of this game is that at night in one of the establishments, teddy bears came to life, and now they are trying to kill the guard.

With the FNaF Texture Pack for Minecraft Bedrock 1.18 and 1.18.0, the player can become one of these animatronics.

The game has wildly captured the imaginations of kids, parents, and even school educators since its release in 2011 – and the craze continues to blaze.

But why is Minecraft so popular? Unlike most video games, it offers players unlimited possibilities to create a 3-dimensional world using a variety of different blocks – a task that requires a lot of creativity.

It’s also an educational tool for kids that can help them learn anything from advanced computer skills, math, engineering, architecture, art, and history. Kids also pick up life skills like creativity, problem-solving, exploration, and teamwork.

While playing Minecraft is exciting, you may want to take the gaming experience a step further by setting up a private Minecraft server. Fortunately, setting up a private Minecraft server is easy if you have some basic computer and networking skills.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up a private Minecraft server on Windows, Mac, and Linux VPS.

How to Set Up a Private Minecraft Server

Before you dive into the niceties, there are some basic steps you’ll need to follow.

At the very least, you’ll need to:

  • Update Java to the latest version
  • Choose server location
  • Download and install the most recent version of Minecraft server software
  • Start the server
  • Check whether the server is accessible

Consider Your Options

To run a Minecraft server from home, you don’t need a top-of-the-line system. However, for you to play and run the server on the same machine smoothly, your system needs to be powerful.

But what if, for whatever reason you don’t want to host your Minecraft server from home? The most ideal solution is to use a game server provided by a hosting provider

With a dedicated game server, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of managing server hardware. Also, you don’t have to worry about poor connections or lag when in multiplayer mode.

With that in mind, now let’s dive into the particulars.

add-server-minecraft

Setting up a Minecraft Server on Windows

Get the latest Java version

Being a Java-based sandbox game, the first thing you’ll want to do is to download and install the latest version of Java in your Windows PC.

Pick a location for your Minecraft server files

The next step is to identify a location in your PC where you’ll set up and run the server. You can create a dedicated folder on your desktop or in any other location on your PC. The point here is to keep the configuration files in one place and organized.

Download Minecraft server

Once you’ve identified a location for your Minecraft server files, go ahead and download the most recent version of Minecraft server software from Minecraft’s official website.

The downloaded file will be in .jar format. Move it to the destination folder you chose above and double-click it to start the server. The server configuration files will be created but you’ll need to make some adjustments before the server is ready to use.

At this point, you’ll be required to accept the end-user license agreement (EULA). Accepting the EULA will enable you to start the server.

To agree to the EULA, double-click on the eula.txt file and then replace the eula=false line of text to eula=true. Save then close.

  1. Start the server

You can now start your Minecraft server. There are two ways you can do this.

You can choose to double click the .jar file. With this option, however, you might be required to allow the server through a firewall.

The other option is to open the dedicated Minecraft server folder where the server files were installed and start the server by executing this command:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Your server is now up and running and you can start inviting friends to join in via your local or public IP address. However, it’s advisable to check whether your server is accessible by entering your public IP into the Minecraft Server Checker

Setting up a Minecraft Server on Mac

The procedure is quite similar to that of setting up on Windows OS.

Update or install Java

All new MacOS versions come with Java. However, you can check your version by navigating to System Preferences then clicking on Java. You’ll be able to see your Java version from the Java control panel.

For computers running on older macOS versions, you’ll have to download the legacy version of Java from the Apple website.

Choose a location to store your server files

Create a destination folder on your desktop or any other place you prefer where you’ll store your Minecraft server configuration files.

Download the Minecraft server set-up program

Now visit the official Minecraft website and download the server software. You will get a .jar file in your Downloads folder. Copy the file to the destination folder.

Now open the TextEdit programselect the plain text option and enter the following command sequence:

#!/bin/bash

cd “$(dirname “$0″)”

exec java -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

In the same file directory where the server files are stored, save this file as startmc.command. But for this file to work, you’ll need “execute” permission.

To grant permission, open your terminal and type in the following command: chmod a+x startmc.command

Start the server

If the above steps are followed correctly, double-clicking the startmc.command should start the server. A new terminal window will pop up and you might get a directory warning or missing file error message. This should not be a cause for alarm as it happens whenever you run a Minecraft server for the first time.

Set Up a Minecraft Server an Linux VPS

As aforementioned, some players may not be inclined to the idea of hosting their Minecraft server at home. A cheap alternative would be to spin up a Linux VPS hosting plan.

With a Linus VPS, you’ll enjoy better network security, server-grade hardware, and of course, lagging will be a thing of the past. You can check out this article from and learn how you can set up a private Minecraft server on Linux VPS.

Conclusion

With a private Minecraft server, you have more control. You can modify the rules of the game, invite your buddies to join in for some fun, install mods, and more. Similarly, parents can have control over whom you’re their kids interact with online.

Article Summary

Minecraft, a sandbox adventure game developed by Mojang, has sold over 176 million copies as of 2019, making it the second-most popular video game in the world after Tetris. Minecraft’s popularity is driven by its ability to offer players unlimited possibilities to create a 3-dimensional world using a variety of different blocks, which requires a lot of creativity. It is also an educational tool for kids that can help them learn anything from advanced computer skills, math, engineering, architecture, art, and history. Setting up a private Minecraft server is easy if you have some basic computer and networking skills.

Minecraft is everywhere. It’s moved out of the realms of video games into books, toys and now even more video games, but what I hear from most parents is ‘I just don’t get it’. I know, because I was one of them. I have now played in excess of 100 hours of Minecraft on Xbox One and another 50+ on Minecraft Pocket Edition. Whilst this is only scratching the surface of the game, I can safely say that ‘I get it’. In its simplest form, Minecraft is digital Lego, where you have an unlimited amount of blocks and all the different block types. There is no guidance or story so it’s all your imagination as to what happens and why… it’s very cool!

Know your modes

creative-mode-minecraft

Creative Mode

Basically, Minecraft has three modes ‘creative’, ‘survival’ and Adventure. Creative mode is just like digital Lego as you are given an array of block types that includes building blocks such as dirt, stone, and wood. creators also can use blocks such as water, rail tracks, windows, stairs, ladders and fences. Then there is the accessories that might include torches, chests, plant pots, flowers, and picture frames. Finally, there are the weapons and tools which include pickaxes, regular axes, swords, shovels, bows and fishing rods. All of which and more can be used to craft anything from a garden shed to a castle complete with a water slide and roller coaster. The only limit is your imagination. For me, it was like having both an unlimited collection of Lego as well as having a never-ending train set. The world is generated when you first start the game and can include various ‘biomes’ that include forest, desert, aquatic, grassland and tundra. All have hidden caves, mines and temples to discover. Discovering these is incredibly exciting. From the second you breakthrough into one of the chasms you feel like you have opened a treasure trove of adventure. Inside there might be mines, monsters and precious metals. Caves are more exciting in survival mode as you need only have limited resources and do not have access to everything in creative mode. The good thing about creative mode (for parents) is that the monsters can’t hurt you.

survival-mode-minecraft

Survival Mode

The survival mode is more of a game than a toy box. You start with nothing and have to build your world from nothing. You begin by collecting wood from trees, wool from sheep and digging up dirt from the ground. From there you can build a bed, a shovel and basic weapon and create your first home. I have compiled a beginner’s guide to Minecraft here for more details. In survival mode, the monsters not only can hurt you, but also actively look for you, so building your first home is a must. As most monsters come out at night you can sleep through the first few nights until you have a small Arsenal of weapons or you have created a small tunnel network. The beauty of survival mode is that everything is earned. You can’t have diamond armour until you have enough diamond ore to make it, which means you have t work your way through, wood and iron first. Your home, your tunnel network, your mine tracks and everything you create in survival mode is all down to you working hard at the game. This takes time, a lot of time. Should you ever want to speed up your progress, you can use the options menu to switch from survival mode to creative mode at any point.

Adventure Mode

Finally, you have adventure mode, in which you can’t place blocks or destroy blocks (unless you have the correct tool). You can still trade with villagers, find chests, hit animals, but it’s more about playing a traditional style game. You can create levels in creative mode and then switch to adventure mode to play games such as parkour levels or the hunger games, which I will go into later on.

The Monsters of Minecraft

The important thing to note is that when an enemy hits you there are no screams, blood, or gore, just the sound of a thump. Zombies, spiders and wolves just hit you, whilst skeletons and witches have projectiles. Endermen are generally passive unless you get too close or stare directly at them. When the player attacks enemies there is a similar thud but they do moan and yelp when killed.   minecraft-for-parents-kids

Notes for Parents

I thought it was useful to highlight how to manage a Minecraft addict. If you want to be involved with their game there are a few things you can do.

There are Various Skin Packs

Skin packs are paid-for themes that change the look of the various blocks. Instead of having the standard pixel style look, you can change it to plastic-looking blocks, sci-fi themed, Halloween etc. All of these changes the look of the entire world and come with additional character skins so your player can look like a spaceman or even Father Christmas.

Set Challenges and Tasks

Ask them to build you a room in their house, your own house or even a small farm.

Give Them a Time Frame

Building exquisite structures or exploring deep caverns in Minecraft takes time, but it can be saved at any point. Give players a timeframe so they can manage what they are doing. If they are building, let them finish a wall or floor (but not the building) and if they are mid-adventure ask them to get to a safe spot to save.

It’s Up To Four Players! Why not join in with the fun and use the second controller to build something with your child or even be the partner on an exploration?

The Hunger Games More advanced players that tire of the regular game modes can play an event called The Hunger Games which is a player vs player battle around custom arenas.

So there you have it, you’re the first step into a much larger digital world.

Questions about Minecraft:

Explain Minecraft to me.

Answer:

Minecraft is a popular video game that allows players to explore, build, and create in a virtual world made up of blocks. It was originally developed by Markus Persson and released by Mojang Studios in 2011.

In Minecraft, players are free to roam around a vast, procedurally generated world made up of a variety of different environments, including forests, caves, deserts, and more. As they explore the world, players can collect resources such as wood, stone, and other materials, which they can then use to craft and build structures and other objects.

One of the key features of Minecraft is its open-ended gameplay, which allows players to play in a variety of different ways. Some players may choose to focus on exploration, discovering new areas and uncovering secrets hidden within the game world. Others may prefer to build and create, using the resources they collect to construct elaborate structures and designs.

Minecraft also includes a variety of different game modes, including survival mode, creative mode, and multiplayer mode. In survival mode, players must gather resources, build shelter, and defend themselves against hostile creatures such as zombies and skeletons. In creative mode, players have access to unlimited resources and can build and create without any restrictions. Multiplayer mode allows players to join servers and play with others online.

Overall, Minecraft is a game that encourages creativity, exploration, and problem-solving. It has a large and dedicated player base, and it has inspired numerous spin-off games and media, including Minecraft: Dungeons, Minecraft Earth, and the Minecraft: Story Mode narrative adventure game.

What are some beginner tips for Minecraft?

Answer:

  1. Start by gathering resources: To start building and crafting in Minecraft, you’ll need to gather resources such as wood, stone, and cobblestone. These can be found by punching trees, mining stone and ore, and collecting sand and dirt.
  2. Build a shelter: Once you have some resources, you’ll want to build a shelter to protect yourself from the dangers of the night, such as zombies and skeletons. A simple shelter can be made by using blocks of wood to create a frame, then filling it in with blocks of cobblestone or other materials.
  3. Craft basic tools: In order to gather resources more efficiently, you’ll need to craft basic tools such as a pickaxe, shovel, and axe. These can be made using a crafting table, which can be created by placing four blocks of wood in a 2×2 grid.
  4. Experiment with crafting: Minecraft’s crafting system is very flexible, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations of items to see what you can create. You can also use a crafting table to create more advanced items such as weapons, armor, and food.
  5. Explore and gather resources: As you play Minecraft, you’ll want to explore the world and gather resources to help you survive and build. You can find new resources by exploring different biomes, such as forests, deserts, and snow-covered tundras.
  6. Protect yourself from danger: There are many dangers in Minecraft, such as mobs and hostile animals. To protect yourself, you’ll need to craft weapons and armor, and be sure to keep an eye out for danger. You can also build defenses such as walls and traps to help keep mobs at bay.
  7. Play with others: Minecraft is a great game to play with friends, so consider joining a multiplayer server or inviting your friends to play with you. Playing with others can make the game more fun and help you survive and build in the game world.

Minecraft can be daunting to new players and for many, it’s hard to get stuck in. With this guide for Minecraft, you can learn everything from initial shelter building to building a nether portal. These top Minecraft tips for noobs will set you on the right track and you will be a Minecraft addict before you know it.

Minecraft Beginners Guide:

1. First things first – Chop down a tree and gather wool from three sheep

The wood and wool allow you to make a bed that acts as a future spawn point as well as a way to avoid the night creatures in the beginning of the game.

2. Your first home

Before the sun sets on the first day try and get a small house built (about 5×5 is fine). This can be done with dirt and only has to have walls of 2 blocks high to keep out the night creatures. Seal yourself in on the first night as you can always dig you way out in the morning. Dig down a few layers (keeping in mind you will need a dirt staircase and place your bed… Go to sleep, you have a big day in the morning

3. Crafting tables and furnaces

In order to make almost anything, you need a crafting table. Once created you can make everything from a rudimentary wooden axe to a fully powered train track. However, in order to cook food or smelt ore into usable materials, you will need a furnace and something to burn.

4. Torches are your best friend

Make sure you also have a good supply of torches. When mining they are invaluable to light your holes and when you discover caverns they are required to light them up. Many mines already have torches lit but there are many areas still in the dark. Torches also act as great map markers and can be placed at the top of towers and near doors to help players find their bearings.

minecraft - skelton

5. Bad to the bone

If you are out at night, the Skeletons offer the best rewards. The bones can be used to befriend wolves, be crushed down into bonemeal for use in dyes or fertiliser and best of all they carry arrows which can take a while to build.

6. Get some allies

Use bones to tame wolves which as to be used as team members and attack what you attack.

7. Don’t dig straight up or straight down

Digging straight down might seem the quickest way to explore the hidden depths below you but if you chance upon a mine or cavern you could fall and die losing all your gear. Digging straight up can result in two issues, firstly you could hit water and be washed down the shaft and potentially flood the mine you have just dug. Similarly, if you hit gravel or sand you might find yourself on the tail end of a cave in.

8. Dig under mountains

Mountains are a good place to start digging. Many mountains yield mine shafts and large caverns that not only have more ore but chests and tracks.

9. The right tool for the job.

When you see gold, emerald or red stone make sure you use an iron pickaxe to mine it otherwise it will yield nothing.

Minecraft - gold

10. Gold is not as good as you think

Gold is semi-rare in Minecraft and should be mined, but it is a soft metal and no good for weapons and armour. Save it to create powered mine rails to race around the map.

11. Get there faster

By double-tapping up/forwards on the controller, you can do a speed run, which, when combined with jumping is a faster way to travel.

12. Fast travel for lazy people

By laying mine cart tracks you can use minecarts to zip across the landscape easily and quickly. On easy mode the mine carts also have little or no issue going uphill as well as down so you can circumnavigate your world with ease.

13. Tactical suicide

Making a substantial marker tower requires it to be tall… very tall. Make sure you have put all valuable items in a box and have a spawn point nearby (a bed that you have previously slept in). Then take a lot of dirt or cobblestone and a few torches. Look down and jump up placing a block underneath you each time. This will elevate you to a ridiculous height and you can place a torch or two at the top to act as a map marker for safe houses, mines or temples. Getting down will kill you unless you land in water so once you have had a good look around leap to your doom.

14. Hot stuff

When going down mines remember to take an iron bucket. Before returning to the surface bring back a bucket of lava to pour into water. This creates obsidian which can be used for creating a nether portal.

15. Diamond is lava’s best friend

Always look underneath diamond as in many cases there is lava underneath.

Minecraft - diamond

16. Farming Islands

When farming, find a small pool and place a dirt island in the centre (keeping a channel of water around the outside). Use a hoe to treat the ground and plant wheat seeds for a constant supply of wheat. Wheat makes bread which restores lots of energy and can be used to lure cows and sheep into pens.

17. Keeping cows

As you get deeper into the game you will want to keep a steady supply of food around as starving can cause death. Use wheat to lure two cows into a pen and feed them wheat to breed them. The more cows you have the more food you can make (without having to go too far from base).

18. Listen, can you smell something?

When digging down, listen out for enemy sounds as this help identify nearby caverns. When you hear the chirp of a spider or moan of a zombie, try digging sideways in a few directions to locate them.

19. Get Minecraft Pocket Edition

This will give you twice as much game time but one can be used to learn what things do and experiment and the other can be your main game.

20. Don’t blow your diamonds on a hoe

his is an important life lesson in general. A wooden hoe works just as good as a diamond one. Diamonds are better used for pickaxes, swords and enchantment tables. Bonus tip: it’s easy to get addicted… Set yourself a mission or task and stick to it… You can lose hours, days and months in this game!

More Minecraft Tips For Beginners

Start with a beginner-friendly game mode like “Survival” or “Peaceful” mode.

Start with the basics: Learn the basics of the game by starting with the survival mode and completing the tutorial. You will need to gather resources, build a shelter and survive the first night

Gather resources as soon as possible, especially wood and coal.

Hit the trees: Punch trees to collect wood, which is one of the most important resources in the game. You will need to craft a wooden pickaxe to collect other resources.

Build a shelter before the first nightfall to protect yourself from monsters.

A roof over your head: Build a shelter to protect yourself from monsters at night. You can use any available resources like dirt or wood.

Use torches to light up your shelter and surrounding areas to keep monsters away.

Use torches: Use torches to light up your surroundings and prevent monsters from spawning.

Craft a crafting table to access more advanced crafting options.

To craft a crafting table in Minecraft, you need four wooden planks. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your inventory by pressing “E” on your keyboard.
  2. Gather four wooden planks. You can get them by chopping down a tree and converting the wood into planks.
  3. Arrange the planks in a 2×2 grid in your crafting menu. Place one wooden plank in each slot of the top two rows.
  4. Drag the crafting table item from the output box to your inventory.

Once you have crafted a crafting table, you can place it down in the world by right-clicking with it selected in your hotbar. This will allow you to access a 3×3 crafting grid to craft more advanced items.

Use a pickaxe to mine stone and other harder materials.

Make tools: Use your resources to craft tools like a pickaxe, axe, and shovel. These tools will help you gather resources more efficiently. You’ll start with a wooden one but then use harder materials to craft better versions.

Craft a furnace to smelt ore and cook food.

Craft a furnace: Craft a furnace to smelt ores and cook food. You will need cobblestone to craft a furnace.

Build a bed to set your spawn point and avoid getting lost.

A bed is made from wood and wool. Once you fall asleep in bed, this will be your spawn point or checkpoint if you die.

Use a sword to defend yourself against monsters and other players.

Swords kill enemies faster than axes and pick axes.

Create a farm to grow crops and breed animals.

Build a farm: Build a farm to grow crops and breed animals. You will need seeds and animals to start a farm.

Use a bucket to gather water and lava.

Use water and lava to your advantage: Use water to create a water elevator and lava to create traps for monsters.

Explore caves to find valuable resources like diamonds.

Mine at different levels: Mine at different levels to find different resources. You will find different ores and materials at different depths.

Use a bow and arrows to fight monsters and hunt animals from a distance.

To create a bow and arrow in Minecraft, you will need three sticks and three strings. Follow these steps:

  1. Gather three sticks by punching wooden blocks (logs, planks, or stripped logs) with no tool or by using an ax, pickaxe, or shovel.
  2. Gather three strings by killing spiders or by finding them in abandoned mineshafts or dungeon chests.
  3. Arrange the sticks and strings in a “Y” shape in your crafting table or inventory crafting grid, with the sticks on either side of the top row and the string in the middle row. This will create a bow.
  4. Gather flint by mining gravel blocks with a shovel or by killing chickens, which may drop flint as a rare drop.
  5. Gather sticks by following step 1.
  6. Arrange the flint and sticks in a diagonal line in your crafting table or inventory crafting grid, with the flint in the top row and the sticks in the middle and bottom rows. This will create arrows.
  7. Equip your bow and arrows and use them to shoot at your target by holding down the right mouse button to draw back the bowstring and release it to fire the arrow.

Build a minecart system to transport yourself and your items quickly.

To build a minecart system in Minecraft, follow these steps:

  1. Gather resources: You’ll need iron ingots, sticks, and redstone dust.
  2. Craft the minecart tracks: Use iron ingots to craft minecart tracks in a crafting table.
  3. Place the tracks: Place the tracks in a straight line or in a loop. Make sure there are no gaps in the track.
  4. Add powered rails: Add powered rails every few blocks to keep the minecart moving. To power the rails, place a redstone torch or lever next to the rail.
  5. Add a minecart: Place a minecart on the track and push it to start.
  6. Build stations: Build stations along the track where you can get on and off the minecart.
  7. Add storage: You can add chests or hoppers to the stations to store items or transport them along the track.
  8. Add switches: You can add switches to the track to change the direction of the minecart.
  9. Test the system: Test your minecart system to make sure it works properly. You can ride the minecart or push it to see how it moves along the track.

Use redstone to create complex contraptions and automated systems.

Redstone is hard to find but when mined can be used to create power to power everything from doors to minecarts.

Trade with villagers to acquire rare and valuable items.

If you come across a village, you can trade with them instead of stealing from them. This will give you access to additional items.

Create an enchantment table to enchant your weapons and tools for extra abilities.

To create an enchantment table in Minecraft, you will need:

  • 4 obsidian blocks
  • 2 diamonds
  • 1 book

Once you have gathered the necessary materials, follow these steps:

  1. Arrange the obsidian blocks in a square formation on the ground, leaving the center block empty.
  2. Place the two diamonds in the top two corners of the obsidian square.
  3. Place the book in the center block.

Once you have completed these steps, the enchantment table will appear, and you can use it to enchant weapons, tools, and armor.

Addiction is a strange thing; to have something consume your thoughts every day that it changes how you live your life is quite amazing. I have an addictive personality, (so I am told) and over the past month, the object of my affection has been Minecraft.

Like many people my age, Minecraft was a mystery; a game with building blocks, bad graphics and no storyline. What kind of game has no storyline? My nephew loved it and during a family party at my house I happily bought it, so he could show me the ropes. To be honest, I was taken with it. He flew around the map in creative mode building a house and to be honest I was bored.

Fast forward a few weeks and I haven’t touched the game. My nephew gets a shiny new Xbox One and we agree to meet online for a Minecraft session. In preparation for this, I decided to build a house to welcome him into. This time I choose survival mode as it has night beasties, limited resources, and no flying. I died a few times before finally making a rudimentary house… I then dug down and began creating my very own bat cave with storage rooms, bedrooms, and even a guest bedroom for my nephew. He joined the game and happily set about helping me carve out the world beneath my mud hut. Then it got me.

Before I knew it, I have replaced the mud walls with stone and built up and up to create an imposing tower that I could see for miles around. Tunnels stretched out in various directions to protect me from the night creatures above and I used a nearby village to create a secondary safe house.

As time went on I found myself setting my own goals and making up my own story. I discovered an array of goodies in mines and dug up all the tracks to add to my tunnels. I marked exciting finds with colossal stone obelisks with burning flames that lit up the night sky.

I played with my nephew where possible and was amazed how our stories crossed and diverged. I would suggest dungeon crawling and before I knew it he had gathered a rare ore and set out creating a portal to another world. I continued my exploration of the vast underground caverns, which really felt huge as I knew how long it would actually take to mine it. Hidden waterfalls, lava flows and underground pools made me giggle with excitement. My game-playing life was soon consumed with one game and I even purchased the Minecraft Pocket Edition on my iPhone so I could play on the Loo and any other time I could not access my Xbox.

One of my original questions about Minecraft was why people flock to YouTube to see videos about it. The main reason I found, was the fact that no one really knows what they are doing and YouTube is the easiest way to find out, how to mine emerald, how to breed animals, what moss-covered stone is good for, and the other million questions people have when they get addicted. After only a week or so I found myself a constant visitor to the Minecraft Wiki and viewing ‘how to’ videos in order to speed up my domination of the world I was placed in. I watched people create whole villages and was introduced to Stampy Cat – the children’s presenter of Minecraft on YouTube and an internet celebrity.

It was getting stupid, I was staying too late to be a productive human being and I stopped writing articles and making videos. I needed to reign it in and so I set myself a task to get the easy achievements and then start on something else.

Thankfully, over the last couple of years, I have got into the mindset of never spending more than a month on one particular game so as my month came to a close my urge to see what else was out there took hold. It wasn’t easy, however, as even when I went back to Minecraft to capture some footage I found myself slipping into the comfortable slippers of adventure and exploration and lost a few hours after discovering a hollowed-out mountain full of precious stones… Damn you Minecraft!

Even now I am wondering what a jungle temple looks like and if I will ever play long enough to take on an Ender Dragon but like any addiction, I need to reduce my exposure to safe levels to get control of it. Sure, I will have a play with my nephew when I get the chance but as for doing it alone… I need to stop.
