Chapter II Unveiled: What’s in Store

Scheduled for release in 2024 across available platforms, Chapter II of Sugar Mess – Let’s Play Jolly Battle is poised to introduce fresh elements to the VR arcade FPS. Developers have kept us on the edge of our seats, revealing that new enemies will be a highlight of this upcoming update.

Sugar Mess - Let's Play Jolly Battle

A Cake-Infested Wonderland

In the existing Chapter I, the enemies take on the whimsical form of various cakes, each boasting different shapes and colors. These cake mobs, in their relentless pursuit, hurl candies and snowballs at the player character, the Prince, posing a delightful yet challenging threat to their health.

Meet the Cake Mobs

Diving into the details, the cake mobs follow distinctive patterns, combining shooting and flying towards the player. The variety of cake mobs includes:

  • Round Cake: Doughnut-shaped, it flies and shoots at the player.
  • Pink Cake: Takes to the air, shooting at the player.
  • Violet Cake: Ground runner, airborne shooter.
  • Purple Cake: The longest of them all, stays grounded, shooting, and playing hide-and-seek.

Helpers in the Mix

Amidst the chaos, not all cake mobs are adversaries. Round flying cakes step in as allies, ready to assist in challenging times. With a first aid kit in their backpack, they become the player’s companions, aiding the Prince in healing.

Fresh Skins, New Challenges

Chapter II brings a delightful twist with fresh skins adorning the challenging 10 levels. The enemies, now stronger and more agile, promise players a renewed and exciting gaming experience.

As I strapped on my Meta Quest 2 headset and ventured into the VR realm of Gazzlers, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I was getting some cute Borderlands vibes looking at the screenshots. What awaited me, however, was a rollercoaster of adrenaline, chaos, and downright fun that blew me away.

Gazzlers VR

All Aboard the Gazzlers Express

Gazzlers transports you into a high-speed train journey across the lands of Ginkgo. Your mission is clear: protect your locomotive from the relentless onslaught of Gazzlers, a tribe of peculiar, red creatures bearing an uncanny resemblance to the infamous Raving Rabbids.

In terms of gameplay, it doesn’t get more straightforward than this. Armed with your trusty gun and a shield, your task is simple: annihilate the Gazzlers and their eccentric mechanical contraptions to keep your train hurtling towards the elusive Temple of the Machine God.

Gazzlers VR

Chaos in Diesel-Fueled Form

This VR shooter immerses you in an arcade-style shooting gallery with a twist. The art style, reminiscent of Borderlands, combines with the zany behaviour of the Gazzlers to create a visual spectacle. Despite the over-the-top action and sheer craziness, Gazzlers retains a unique charm that sets it apart from the crowd.

As a gamer weary of immersive, slow-paced VR experiences, Gazzlers felt like a breath of fresh air. It’s one of those games you can pick up and play without any steep learning curve. Its straightforward mechanics allow you to focus on the pure enjoyment of blasting away those wild, red foes.

Gazzlers is as much about survival as it is about annihilation. The Gazzlers arrive in waves, each more chaotic and challenging than the last. You’ll find yourself juggling offensive firepower with the need to protect your train and yourself from a barrage of enemy projectiles.

Amidst the chaos, Gazzlers offers a stroke of strategy. After each wave, you’re presented with a choice between two random upgrades. These choices can significantly impact your chances of survival. Whether it’s increasing your ammo capacity, adding explosive effects, or boosting your resilience, these decisions will influence your journey.

Gazzlers VR

The Addictive Factor

I admit, my first few runs were chaotic, and I fell to the relentless Gazzlers time and again. Yet, the desire to improve, the allure of higher scores, and the prospect of collecting scrap to purchase permanent upgrades drove me to persevere. The feeling of progression, knowing that your character is evolving with each run, adds a layer of addictiveness to Gazzlers.

Whether it’s additional health, more damage, or increased luck, these upgrades make each subsequent run feel more promising. It’s a game that encourages you to keep coming back, improving, and conquering the next challenge.

As I ventured through the varied biomes, each with its unique visual style and Gazzler threats, I was continuously wowed. While the game fundamentally remains a VR shooting gallery, it captures the essence of classic arcade titles like Point Blank and Time Crisis. With its eclectic mix of horrible red monsters and relentless action, Gazzlers keeps you coming back for more.

From the visual design to the pulsating soundtrack, Bolt Blast Games has created an electrifying world where the chaos reigns, and shooting Gazzlers is incredibly satisfying. The game doesn’t overcomplicate things; it’s here to offer pure, unadulterated fun.

Gazzlers VR

The Verdict: Unmissable VR Thrills

Gazzlers on Meta Quest 2 is the epitome of arcade-style VR fun. Its accessible gameplay, paired with an addictive progression system and satisfying shooting mechanics, makes it a must-play for anyone seeking an adrenaline rush.

As someone who’s never been much of a ‘traditional’ sports enthusiast, I do like a round of mini-golf, but I felt happy to play it in the real world before trying it in the virtual world. However, when I saw it on sale I took the plunge and I’m thrilled to report that giving it a swing turned out to be an excellent decision. Walkabout Mini Golf might just be my new favorite VR game, and I’m here to tell you why.

Walkabout Mini Golf

Accessible Gameplay Anyone Can Enjoy

First and foremost, Walkabout Mini Golf is incredibly easy to pick up and play. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never swung a golf club in your life; this game has you covered. The controls are beautifully intuitive, making it accessible to players of all levels. There are no convoluted button combinations or height issues to worry about. Just push your club into the ground to adjust it to your height and stance, then swing away. It’s as simple as that. No fuss, just fun.

Walkabout Mini Golf

Immersive Environments That Transport You

The game’s courses are not just visually stunning; they’re thoughtfully designed to offer a truly immersive experience. Each course boasts a distinct atmosphere and ambiance, showcasing impressive variety in their environments. While it might not be the most technically advanced game out there, its cartoony, stylized visuals are a sight to behold.

Walkabout Mini Golf

The Hunt for Lost Balls

Surprisingly, the most compelling feature of Walkabout Mini Golf isn’t just the golfing itself. Hidden on every hole lies a lost ball, each with its unique design. Discovering these hidden treasures is not just a delightful diversion; it’s a genuine addiction. It often feels like the actual golfing takes a back seat to this treasure hunt. Exploring the meticulously crafted worlds that make up the game’s courses while seeking out these balls is a genuine pleasure.

Walkabout Mini Golf

Freedom to Explore

This game offers you the freedom to explore the courses at your leisure. You can return to your ball whenever you like or not at all if you so choose. Navigating the islands is a breeze, and you can even use a map overview to teleport to any hole on the course. From this menu screen, you can also keep tabs on your score and keep track of the balls you’ve found. It’s a charming, tranquil, and enchanting slice of escapism that proves surprisingly addictive. Even if you don’t always hit par, you never feel like you’re missing out. There’s even the added allure of ‘Foxhunts’ on each course, involving tracking down clues to unlock new putters.

A VR Game Like No Other

Walkabout Mini Golf is a game I’d wholeheartedly recommend to any Meta Quest 2 owner. It’s a game that truly anyone can pick up and enjoy. While it might not push the hardware to its limits, it doesn’t need to. This beautifully designed game, with its immersive ambiance and wealth of content, makes it feel like there’s a world of exploration waiting for you.

In a world saturated with traditional console golf games, this VR gem shines as a testament to how well the sport works in virtual reality. It’s an experience so perfectly suited to VR that going back to a regular console version seems almost unthinkable.

So, whether you’re a seasoned VR enthusiast or have just unboxed your Meta Quest 2, make room in your library for Walkabout Mini Golf. You won’t regret it.

Now I have just downloaded the Labyrinth-themed course and characters I am just about to jump back in for another 18 holes.

Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as an exciting and immersive technology that has captured the attention of both children and adults alike. With its ability to transport users to different worlds and provide unique gaming experiences, VR has become increasingly popular in recent years. As a parent, it is essential to understand if VR games are safe for children, their potential benefits, and how to ensure safe and engaging experiences for your children. In this guide, we will explore the world of VR gaming and provide useful tips to help you navigate this new frontier.

Understanding Virtual Reality Games

Virtual Reality games are immersive experiences that allow players to step into a virtual world through a headset and interact with the environment using specialized controllers. Unlike traditional video games played on a screen, VR games create a sense of presence and allow users to feel as if they are part of the game itself. This heightened level of immersion can be both exciting and potentially overwhelming for young players.

Benefits of VR Games for Children

VR games offer several benefits for children, including enhanced learning opportunities, improved hand-eye coordination, and increased spatial awareness. The immersive nature of VR can also foster creativity and imagination, as children can explore fantastical environments and engage in interactive storytelling. Additionally, some VR games promote physical activity, making them a great alternative to sedentary screen time.

job simulator vr

Choosing Age-Appropriate VR Games

When selecting VR games for your children, it is crucial to consider their age and maturity level. Many VR games come with age recommendations, which can serve as a helpful guideline. Additionally, you can read reviews, consult gaming forums, or seek recommendations from other parents to ensure the games align with your child’s interests and abilities. Always prioritize games that offer appropriate content and gameplay experiences suitable for their age group.

Setting Up a Safe VR Environment

Creating a safe environment for VR gaming is vital to ensure your child’s well-being and enjoyment. Follow these guidelines to establish a secure setup:

1. Physical Safety: Clear the play area of any obstacles or potential hazards, ensuring that there is ample space for movement. Remove sharp objects, fragile items, and furniture that can be bumped into during gameplay.

2. Supervision: Supervise younger children while they play VR games to ensure they stay within the designated play area and follow the game’s instructions. Be available to address any concerns or discomfort they may experience.

3. Time Limits: Establish reasonable time limits for VR gameplay to avoid excessive use and potential eye strain. Encourage breaks for rest and physical activity.

4. Adjusting the Headset: Properly adjust the VR headset to your child’s head size for a comfortable fit. Make sure it is not too tight or loose, as this can cause discomfort or distractions during gameplay.

5. Motion Sickness: Some individuals may experience motion sickness or dizziness while playing VR games. If your child shows signs of discomfort, encourage them to take breaks and gradually increase their exposure to VR to build tolerance over time.

Monitoring and Communication

Regularly engage in open conversations with your child about their VR gaming experiences. Understand their interests, the games they enjoy, and how they feel while playing. Encourage responsible gaming habits, such as taking breaks, and discuss the importance of balance between virtual and real-world activities. Monitor their interactions with other players in VR multiplayer games to ensure a safe and respectful online environment.

Virtual Reality games have the potential to provide exciting and educational experiences for children. By understanding the technology, choosing age-appropriate games, setting up a safe environment, and maintaining open communication, parents can ensure their children have a positive and enriching VR gaming experience. With the right precautions in place, VR gaming for children can be a gateway to new worlds, fostering creativity, learning, and fun for the whole family.

Having recently reviewed the hilarious ‘Not Suitable For Broadcast,’ where you spend the game in a TV studio, I was eager to try my hand in the world of Radio and see what Killer Frequency had to offer. Thankfully Killer Frequency doesn’t confire you to your desk but opens up a whole studio to explore, the only downside is that there is a killer on the loose.

Small Town Mentality

In Killer Frequency, you step into the shoes of Forrest Nash, a once-renowned radio DJ now hosting the late-night show on KFAM 189.16 in the small town of Gallows Creek. The game takes a unique twist as you receive a call from the police, informing you of the Sheriff’s murder and the need for you to take over the dispatch line. It soon becomes clear that The Whistling Man, a notorious serial killer, is back on the prowl. Can your radio show help the townsfolk avoid becoming the next victim?

The game kicks off with a cleverly disguised tutorial, presented as a sound test before going live. Here, you learn to use all the equipment at the DJ booth and build rapport with your co-host throughout the night. Taking calls, playing records, and managing advertisements become crucial aspects of the gameplay.

First Time Caller, Long Time Listener

Answering the police call on-air introduces the core gameplay mechanic: taking calls and guiding the terrified residents of Gallows Creek over the phone to escape the killer. Additionally, you’ll encounter slight puzzle elements, such as finding important items like magazines, maps, or even blueprints of the buildings. These items play a vital role in helping the callers survive. However, it’s worth noting that these puzzles aren’t time-restricted, which detracted from the urgency of the situation at times.

While waiting for the next call, you’ll have the opportunity to play records and advertisements to pass the time and add some humor to the game. This lightens the mood when needed and pays homage to the tropes of 80s slasher movies, where cheesy punchlines are always welcome.

One visual style that I particularly appreciate in VR is cell-shaded graphics, and Killer Frequency nails it. The game looks fantastic inside the headset, with neon lights casting an atmospheric glow around the radio station. The cell-shaded design perfectly captures the 80s setting and immerses you in the created environment.

Moreover, Team17 excels in audio design. Despite taking place solely inside the radio station, the game creates an eerie atmosphere that builds tension as The Whistling Man draws closer. The voice acting for each call is impeccable, immersing you further into the narrative. The game’s 80s-inspired soundtrack, tailored specifically for the game, enhances the immersion, making you feel like you’re truly in a radio station from that era.

Move More, Control Less

While I’m unsure if Killer Frequency can be played seated, the lack of a crouch button and the constant crouching height when seated can be slightly discomforting. Regarding movement, snap-turning is the only option available, which may disappoint some players. However, with the tetherless design of the Meta Quest 2, physically turning became my preferred method, mitigating any issues with snap-turning.

Having played through the game once, it took me approximately five hours to complete. However, Killer Frequency offers three different endings, depending on the survival rate and your actions in the interview with The Whistling Man. If you’re inclined to replay and witness all the endings, it’s worth investing the time.

Overall, Killer Frequency is a fun and freaky experience that is more like an interactive movie than a game. It oozes 80’s nostalgia and balances DJ humour with tense situations. The cell-shaded graphics are fantastic and the custom 80’s music and radical voice acting make this game a killer app for the Meta Quest 2.

So you can imagine how happy I was to step into the eerie world of Propagation: Paradise Hotel, a thrilling VR horror game that pays homage to the Resident Evil franchise while delivering its own unique twists.

A Nod to Classic Horror Games

With a setting reminiscent of the iconic Resident Evil mansion, Propagation: Paradise Hotel embraces the slow-burn horror genre. The impeccable sound design and meticulously detailed environments, drenched in gruesome visuals, create an atmosphere that will send shivers down your spine. VR is the perfect platform to deliver a truly immersive horror experience.

Comparisons to its Predecessor:

Propagation: Paradise Hotel marks a departure from its standstill horde shooter predecessor, evolving into a true survival horror game reminiscent of Resident Evil. The game proudly embraces its inspirations while infusing its own unique style. The eerie hotel setting, intertwined with shortcuts and locked doors requiring intricate puzzles to unlock, provides a captivating backdrop for your heart-pounding journey.

Survival Horror at Its Finest

The challenging encounters with tough-to-kill zombies capture the essence of survival horror. Dispatching them temporarily is not enough, as they can rise again if you’re not careful. Only a well-placed headshot can ensure permanent elimination. Alternatively, you can employ a light stealth system to evade unnecessary confrontations, saving precious resources.

A Bite-Sized Adventure with a Cliffhanger:

Propagation: Paradise Hotel may not offer extensive playtime, with its 2-3 hour duration and a cliffhanger ending teasing a second chapter. However, considering its budget price tag, it provides ample value for your money. So, if you’re hungry for a thrilling VR horror experience, don’t hesitate to take the plunge.

VR Immersion & Controls:

As a VR title, Propagation: Paradise Hotel delivers an impressive level of immersion. Playing on the Meta Quest 2 the controls felt intuitive, with a brief tutorial easing me into the mechanics. The inventory system is massive and required a bit of adjustment, but it proved fair and functional. I did accidentally punch the ceiling trying to get the flashlight, so I must have been pretty immersed at the time. The movement is fluid and using the joystick to move worked really well I often found myself mimicking walking with my legs to really get into the experience.

Unleashing Terror in Virtual Reality:

My first foray into the realm of survival horror in VR was nothing short of astounding. Propagation: Paradise Hotel succeeded in keeping me on edge throughout the experience. The atmospheric environments, coupled with well-executed jump scares, heightened the suspense. I found myself gripping the Quest controllers tightly as I cautiously explored each darkened corner, always mindful of lurking threats. The game’s ability to evoke fear in VR takes horror to another level. Every door was a thrilling experience as you guessed if there were zombies in darkened room or toilet cubicles.

Immersive Environments & Charming Sound Design:

Propagation: Paradise Hotel excels at immersing players in its detailed environments. From scattered bodies to dimly lit hallways, it constantly evokes a sense of unease. While the voice acting may fall into the charmingly cheesy category, it adds to the campy nature reminiscent of early Resident Evil titles. The soundtrack and atmospheric sound effects further enhance the overall experience.

Propagation: Paradise Hotel offers a nostalgic puzzle-solving experience akin to old-school Resi games. The graphics and sound are top notch and the fluidity of movement feels natural and immersive. I did encounter a frustrating puzzle with a poorly signposted solution but these are rare. Additionally, the scarcity of zombies in the first half of the game left me craving more intense encounters. However, the game compensates for this with its unique mechanic of zombies reviving after a brief period of being downed, adding an element of tension and strategic gameplay. Overall, Propagation: Paradise Hotel is a strong template for survival horrors on the Meta Quest 2.

Another Fisherman’s Tale, the highly anticipated sequel to A Fisherman’s Tale, has docked on the Meta Quest 2, delivering a captivating experience that surpasses the original in almost every aspect. This game is not a fishing game as the title might suggest but a mind-bending adventure with innovative gameplay mechanics, immersive storytelling, and a charming visual style.

Another Fisherman’s Tale

A Deeper Dive into Bob’s World

Bob’s tale has grown taller and more emotionally complex in Another Fisherman’s Tale, weaving a narrative that delves into themes of love, loss, responsibility, and freedom. The sequel places a greater emphasis on storytelling, offering players a front-row seat to Bob’s angsty Dad drama and presenting a central narrative that takes centre stage. Alongside the captivating story, the game introduces innovative puzzle mechanics that push the boundaries of VR gaming.

The standout feature has to be the ability to detach, replace, and control your hands, allowing for a myriad of creative and rewarding puzzles. With the addition of detachable hands, players can navigate circuitous routes, manipulate objects, and even detach Bob’s head to gain a fresh perspective. It’s like having mind control over Thing from the Addams Family. These mechanics, though initially challenging to master, provide an engaging and immersive gameplay experience that keeps players guessing throughout the adventure.

Another Fisherman’s Tale offers a generous amount of content, with a playtime of nearly four hours, four times longer than its predecessor. The puzzles, while not overly difficult, are consistently creative and satisfying. The game strikes a delicate balance by providing hints without being overbearing, allowing players to experience the joy of discovery.

Another Fisherman’s Tale

Bob’s Charming World Comes to Life

The star of the show, Bob, is brought to life by the delightful voice acting of French comedian Augustin Jacob, infusing the character with personality and charm. You will wish he was you’re dad by the end of the game. Another Fisherman’s Tale introduces a new cast of engaging characters, further enriching the immersive experience. The game’s linear, storybook-style adventure is accompanied by a sweeping soundtrack that perfectly complements the narrative, creating a truly immersive atmosphere.

The visual design of Another Fisherman’s Tale maintains the charming, cartoony nature of its predecessor while expanding into new and thoughtfully designed environments. The game’s simple yet cohesive art style translates well to the Meta Quest 2, ensuring a visually pleasing experience. Object interaction, although basic, serves its purpose in the context of the puzzles, and the absence of an inventory system streamlines gameplay.

Another Fisherman’s Tale

Smooth Sailing in Virtual Reality

Another Fisherman’s Tale offers a range of different perspectives and you will find yourself as a head on the floor, a head in a bird’s nest or dangling from a hook. While there are occasional moments that may cause slight discomfort, these instances are infrequent and brief. Overall, the game provides a comfortable VR experience that can be enjoyed by anyone.

Another Fisherman’s Tale

A Captivating and Heartwarming Voyage

Another Fisherman’s Tale delivers a compelling and innovative VR adventure. With its emotionally charged narrative, mind-bending puzzles, and charming visuals, the game surpasses its predecessor in terms of depth and content. While it may not reach the same mind-bending heights as the original, Another Fisherman’s Tale is a fantastic sequel that showcases Innerspace’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of virtual reality gaming. Whether you’re a fan of the first game or new to the series, Another Fisherman’s Tale is a voyage worth embarking on.

My daughters wanted to know if there were any Horse games on the Meta Quest 2 and there was nothing to be found in the main library. However, there was one in the Meta Quest App Lab. Not knowing anything about the App Lab, I couldn’t help but investigate further. The App Lab platform allows developers to upload their VR games and experiences to the Meta/Oculus Quest without having to go through the traditional approval process. As someone who has been following the VR industry for some time, I was eager to try out this service and see what it has to offer.

What is the Meta Quest App Lab?

The Meta Quest App Lab is a new platform that allows developers to upload their VR games and experiences to the Oculus Quest without having to go through the traditional approval process. This means that developers can release their games more quickly and easily than ever before, and users can enjoy a wider range of content on their Oculus Quest.

How does it work?

To use the Meta Quest App Lab, developers need to have an Oculus developer account and a Meta developer account. They can then upload their games to the Meta Quest App Lab, where they will be reviewed by Meta’s team to ensure they meet the platform’s quality standards. Once approved, the games will be available to download and play on the Oculus Quest.

How to upload your games to it?

Uploading your games to the Meta Quest App Lab is a relatively simple process. First, you need to create an Oculus developer account and a Meta developer account. Then, you need to package your game for the Oculus Quest and upload it to the Meta Quest App Lab. The Meta team will then review your game and, if it meets their quality standards, it will be made available for download on the Oculus Quest.

Issues and Reviews

While the Meta Quest App Lab is a great new platform for VR developers, it is not without its issues. Some developers have reported that the review process can take longer than expected, and that there is little feedback provided during the review process. Additionally, there have been concerns about the lack of curation on the platform, which could lead to a flood of low-quality content.

Success Stories

There have been several Meta Quest 2 games that have launched on the App Lab and went on to become successful. One of the most notable examples is the game “Pistol Whip” by Cloudhead Games. The game is a rhythm-based first-person shooter that was released on the App Lab in February 2021. It quickly gained popularity and positive reviews from players and critics alike, and went on to be one of the best-selling games on the Meta Quest platform. Other successful games that were launched on the App Lab include “Swarm” by Greensky Games and “Wanderer” by M Theory. These games also received positive reviews and helped to establish the App Lab as a viable platform for indie game developers to release their games on.

Despite these concerns, the Meta Quest App Lab has received generally positive reviews from developers and users alike. Many developers appreciate the ability to release their games more quickly and easily than before, while users are happy to have access to a wider range of content on their Oculus Quest. Some have even called the Meta Quest App Lab a “game-changer” for the VR industry.

The Meta Quest App Lab is an exciting new platform that has the potential to change the VR industry for the better. While there are some concerns about the review process and the lack of curation, the benefits of the platform are clear. Developers can release their games more quickly and easily than ever before, while users have access to a wider range of content on their Oculus Quest. As someone who has been following the VR industry for years, I’m excited to see where the Meta Quest App Lab goes from here.

In Job Simulator VR for Meta Quest 2, the robots have finally taken over and you’ll be working for them doing all the tasks that they don’t want to do. This game is a hilarious and irreverent take on mundane jobs, where you’ll be completing tasks as an office worker, gourmet chef, convenience store clerk, or auto mechanic, all in a world where robots have taken over every job.

job simulator vr

Taskmaster

Playing Job Simulator VR is an interactive experience where you’ll use the controllers or bare hands (thanks to the latest update) to handle and interact with objects in the virtual environment. The game is set in a museum where the AI imagines what human jobs were like before automation took over. In each of the four jobs, you’ll complete a series of tasks that revolve around manipulating objects in the environment.

Office Worker: In this stage, you play as a lowly office drone. Your tasks include making coffee, shredding documents, and sorting files. You’ll also receive occasional emails and phone calls from your boss, who is a sentient computer program. As you progress through the stage, the tasks become more complex, and you’ll have to multitask to keep up.

Gourmet Chef: As a chef, you’ll be tasked with preparing and serving a variety of dishes, from pizza to burgers to sushi. You’ll have to chop, mix, grill, and bake your way to culinary excellence, all while dealing with picky customers and a kitchen that seems to have a mind of its own.

Convenience Store Clerk: In this stage, you’ll be working at a convenience store, stocking shelves and helping customers. You’ll have to scan items, handle cash, and even clean up spills. Be prepared for some eccentric customers who will challenge you to think outside the box.

Auto Mechanic: Finally, you’ll become an auto mechanic, fixing up old cars and sending them back out on the road. You’ll have to diagnose problems, replace parts, and perform routine maintenance tasks. This stage is perhaps the most physically demanding, as you’ll have to lift heavy objects and use a variety of tools to get the job done.

job simulator vr

Everything at Your Fingertips

The environments are cleverly designed, with all necessary objects within convenient reach from wherever you are standing. You can change the function of stations in some of the environments by using levers or toggling modes, such as changing the sink to a sandwich prep area in the gourmet chef stage. This clever use of space gives the game a nice room-scale feel, while not requiring a lot of space in which to play.

The flexibility can get somewhat annoying in later jobs, however, as the frequency in which these stations need to be changed increases, and there are many more options from which to choose. The auto mechanic stage requires constant toggling of two different stations to make the required fixes to the cars that the robotic characters bring to you. However, the game’s mechanics and interactions with objects in the world behave as expected and work exactly like handling objects in the Quest First Steps tutorial.

job simulator vr

Hilarious Parody

What sets Job Simulator VR apart is its hilarious take on mundane jobs. The game is a parody of the modern workplace and its tropes, making it a very relatable and funny story. It takes an important societal issue, the automation of work, and uses it to create a world where AI imagines what human jobs were like. The result is a biting and witty virtual reality experience wrapped up in a playful toybox.

Short but Sweet

The campaign may not take you long to complete, but it absolutely will make you laugh out loud. The clear cynicism that bubbles beneath the surface of this title’s colourful aesthetic is handled in such a dry manner that it’ll leave you in stitches. However, the game’s only shortcoming is that it represents a series of outstanding ideas that have yet to be implemented into something more wholesome. You’ll feel that you’ve got your fill after an hour or two, unless you plan to play this through multiple times with friends and family.

job simulator vr

Final Verdict

Job Simulator VR is a fantastic virtual reality experience that offers a hilarious take on mundane jobs. The game’s biting and witty writing, coupled with its intuitive gameplay, will make you laugh out loud. If you’re looking for a short but sweet game that provides hours of fun, Job Simulator VR is the game for you.

If you’ve ever wanted to see what it’s like to run a nightly news show while contending with government censorship, political propaganda, and a healthy dose of madness, then Not For Broadcast is the game for you. And doing it in VR is the best way to experience it.

The game, set in an alternate history version of 1980s Britain, puts you in the shoes of Alex Winston, the unlikely hero who is tasked with controlling what the country sees on the news. From managing camera feeds to censoring profanity, you have to keep the show running smoothly, all while dealing with the chaos that ensues.

Not-Suitable-For-Broadcast-board

Who’s Running This Show?

At first glance, Not For Broadcast may seem like a straightforward game. You control the camera feeds and censor the profanity. But as you progress through the game, you’ll find that there’s much more to it than meets the eye. You’ll have to deal with government censorship, propaganda, and manipulation, all while keeping your own interests in mind.

The game is full of surprises, from a police chief caught in a compromising position to a fictional sport with confusing rules. The writing is clever and funny, with a healthy dose of satire that will keep you entertained throughout.

The gameplay mechanics are easy to pick up, your hands can press all the oversized buttons, which makes it easy to switch between camera feeds and bleep out profanity. You can grab and insert VHS cassettes to run adverts. A radio wave control is needed to be tweaked during the show which can be a little fiddly sometimes, but it doesn’t detract from the overall experience. But as you progress through the game, the challenges become more difficult, with thunderstorms and other obstacles thrown in to keep things interesting.

The shows range in their content and you will find yourself doing an investigative report on a supposed UFO sighting that quickly spirals out of control to a quiz show with questions that range from ridiculously easy to nearly impossible. These shows and segments are just a small sample of the absurdity and chaos you can expect to encounter in “Not For Broadcast”. The game is an absolute blast and it’s sure to keep you on your toes as you try to keep everything running smoothly.

The game also has a great visual style, with full-motion video that looks like it was taken straight out of the 1980s. The actors are great and the storylines are completely mental. Some of the segments feel like they used the local amateur dramatics group but the bad acting just adds to the madness. The attention to detail is seriously impressive, with the set and costumes all adding to the overall immersion of the game.

Not-Suitable-For-Broadcast-show

Everyone’s A Critic

After each day’s programming, players can see a review of their performance in a retro Teletext-style screen showing how you performed in the timing, delivery, and camera choices. For additional insights, you can go to the archive to actually see your show from a viewer’s point of view. Or for extra laughs see the footage you might have missed.

Not For Broadcast is a fun and engaging experience that will keep you entertained for hours. The VR version is the definitive version as you really feel the panic of juggling all the action. The writing is clever and funny, the gameplay mechanics are easy to pick up, and the visuals are impressive. If you’re a fan of satire, full-motion video games, or just want to experience what it’s like to run a nightly news show, then this game is definitely worth checking out.

Triangle Factory has recently launched its latest VR shooter game, Breachers, which is now available on the Meta Quest Store for $29.99. As a 5v5 team-based tactical shooter, the game offers intense and thrilling close-quarters combat that requires strategic thinking and teamwork.

Developed by the creators of Hyper-Dash, Breachers consists of two teams of five players playing the role of attacker or defender. Unlike Hyper-Dash, Breachers offers more strategy, tactical skill, and environmental interaction, which makes it a must-play for competitive and casual fans of in-depth, tactical shooters.

Breachers

Breachers offers players the choice to plan their assault or orchestrate their defense as a team through intense close-quarters combat. Whether playing as an enforcer or a revolter, players will master nifty gadgetry, customize powerful weaponry and beat opponents in stunning environments. The game features an advanced movement system that enables players to vault over or on top of objects and even rappel up or down a wall with a grappling hook, delivering an immersive and spectacular VR experience.

The game also features a wide range of gadgets, such as drones, breaching foam, trip mines, door blockers, and a distinctive weapon buy and upgrade menu built for VR. Players can experiment with endless tactical possibilities, gadget combinations, and play styles, making each run in Breachers engaging and never dull. To ensure victory, purchase and customize your extensive weaponry to your liking at the start of each round.

Breachers

Breachers features large, beautiful, and partially destructible environments with stunning reflections and lighting, all running natively on Quest 2 hardware. Players can blow up walls and hatches to create a new entrance, and vast, detailed levels create many strategic opportunities for players, making Breachers endlessly replayable.

The game also offers new content, including more “bomb” maps such as Hideout and Skyscraper, a Team Deathmatch mode and map (Killhouse), a shooting range to test out guns and weapons, and private servers where players can set up clan matches.

With over 77,000 people having played the Breachers open alpha, this exciting new game is sure to appeal to fans of tactical shooters. I, for one, am excited to try my hand at planning and executing strategies with my team.

As a fan of city-building games, I was excited to dive into Spacefolk City, a VR game that offers a unique and creative experience. Developed by Moon Mode, Space Folk offers a charming, colorful, and quirky take on the city-building genre that sets it apart from other VR games. What’s more, my two children loved taking care of the little aliens and building up the mish-mash city. As I am always on the lookout for VR games for children, this was a fantastic find.

spacefolk-city-vr

Premise and Gameplay

The game’s premise is simple yet engaging. The Spacefolk are stranded after their planets become uninhabitable, and they are in search of a lovely new home. However, instead of building a permanent structure, you are tasked with creating settlements that can safely move to new locations, should the need arise.

The game offers eight campaign levels, and in each level, you must factor in the Spacefolk’s needs while creating the settlement. If you prefer to build without objectives, there is a sandbox mode available.

spacefolk-city-vr

Building in VR

Building in Spacefolk City is both fun and intuitive. You can create buildings without any gravitational constraint, as long as they are in range of a power generator. Scrap is required to create buildings, and it’s only available by grabbing asteroids that fly past your settlement with regular frequency. Once plucked from the ether, you simply pull them apart to release the scrap. It is strangely satisfying. The game also includes three different building types that boost worker productivity.

The beauty of Spacefolk is everything just works, moving the camera, grabbing objects and placing items all just work which just makes the whole game more lovable.

spacefolk-city-vr

Charming Touches

What sets Spacefolk City apart from other city-building games is the charming touches that make it a delight to play. The Spacefolk are not mindless drones, and they gradually get fatigued, so it’s up to you to take care of them. You can decorate each home with specific items to cater to the Spacefolk’s specific interests, such as cakes, gardening, bananas, and more. This adds a layer of fun to the game that is sure to keep you engaged. Theres also a little floating radio and camera should you feel the need for music or a little photo opportunity, it’s very sweet and work well.

spacefolk-city-vr

Graphics and Soundtrack

Spacefolk City features a vibrant and colorful visual presentation that brings some much-needed color to space. The game’s electronic-themed soundtrack complements your construction work nicely and adds to the game’s overall charm.

spacefolk-city-vr

The Verdict

I really loved my time with all the little Spacefolk. It’s a charming and creative city-building game that offers a fun and engaging experience. If you’re a fan of the city-building genre, you should definitely give Spacefolk a try. It’s a game that is sure to delight both VR veterans and newcomers alike.

Metro VR is a big blocky first-person shooting game and not to be confused with Metro Exodus VR. This game is set in an abandoned subway station, where you have to battle a variety of different robots all out to kill you.

Developed by the Polish company EpicVR, Metro VR is a short but satisfying VR experience that you can complete within an hour (after a few deaths). The graphics are a pixel art style with big blocky graphics and bold colours. The player navigates the Metro by pointing at the various markers on the ground. Once in place, a plethora of robot enemies from floating jellyfish to walking vending machines with semi-automatic weapons approach your location.

The game is relatively easy and FPS fans will complete it quite quickly, however, there are some legitimate jumps in the game as you fend over robots from all angles only to turn around you have one right behind you. There is a storyline about Flat earthers trying to take over the world, but that is not really explained in the game, only on the game’s blurb on the developer’s website.

There are a couple of different weapons and you can swap your gun hand if needed. The final boss is pretty difficult due to its high health count, but not too hard to beat if you have the patience.

Metro VR Gameplay

Overall, Metro VR feels more like a proof of concept than a fully realised game. EpicVR offers a selection of other services that include VR training, so Metro VR might simply be a portfolio piece they use to demonstrate their gaming services. They have a growing library of games but this feels like an earlier one ported over to the Quest. It’s rough around the edges, a little short, very simplistic but perfectly playable and enjoyable.

Virtual reality (VR) has been touted as the future of entertainment and technology for decades. However, many are beginning to question whether VR has lost its momentum and is now in a state of decline. The answer is not a simple yes or no. While VR may be experiencing a lull in its growth, it is by no means dead. To understand this better, let’s explore the current state of VR and what the future may hold for this technology.

What is Third Wave VR?

Before we dive into the current state of VR, it’s essential to understand the concept of third wave VR—that is, the cycle of VR technology that we are currently in. Third wave VR started back in the early 2010s with the release of the Oculus developer’s kit, among other things, and continues until today (provided you’re reading this from the early 2020s). During this wave of VR the focus has been on creating immersive and interactive experiences that include both gaming and entertainment and (very importantly) other applications outside entertainment. These other applications include education, healthcare, and even business.

How Meta Changed the Game with Cheap VR Headsets

While the third wave started with Oculus , it was pushed into the forefront of culture my Meta, who acquired Oculus in 2014. One of the most significant developments in the VR industry in recent years was Meta’s release of cheap VR headsets. Priced at $299, the company’s Oculus Quest 2 made VR accessible to a wider audience than ever before. This has helped drive growth in the industry by immersing many people in VR experiences for the first time, and breeding a new generation of VR enthusiasts and developers.

It also spurred the development and porting of many landmark VR games. Be that the release of Half-Life: Alyx or the porting of huge titles such as Minecraft. Speaking of which, if you want to buy Minecraft Coins at a discount, you can do exactly that with Eldorado.gg.

The Metaverse Was Overhyped

The metaverse was originally coined by science fiction author Neal Stephenson, but (again) it was Meta who made it a household word today. In short, the idea of the metaverse refers to a virtual world where users can interact with each other in an interconnected shared space. However, Meta pushed too hard and quickly corporatized the idea of the metaverse. This has led to many users, enthusiasts and experts to now believe that the hype surrounding the metaverse was overblown, and its potential may have been overstated… At least with current technological constraints.

metaverse

COVID’s Economic Fallout Disrupted VR and Most Industries

While the pandemic saw many people try VR for the first time, the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the VR industry, as it did on many other sectors of the economy. The economic fallout from the pandemic, alongside other factors such as the global easing of stay-at-home measures led to a reduced interest in the metaverse and VR. This, in turn, led to layoffs and a slowdown in VR development, with many companies cutting back on their VR projects. Meta itself announced in December 2021 that it would be laying off hundreds of employees, with the company’s VR division taking a significant hit.

Previous Cycles of VR

While this all sounds like bad news for VR as a whole, this is not the first time VR has experienced a lull in growth. The industry has gone through two previous cycles of hype and decline, with the first wave in the 1990s and the second wave in the mid-2000s. The 1990s push for VR is remembered lovingly by many as the time the iconic company Nintendo tried to enter the VR market with the Virtual Boy, which was a commercial failure due to issues with its display technology.

A continuing trend across VR cycles, thus far, has been technological restrains. Namely, VR technologies being underdeveloped on release or not being able to keep up with user demands, leading to inevitable loss of interest.

While the previous two cycles were hindered by underwhelming realisations of virtual reality, this time many would argue that the issue lies more in the availability of software worth using. As any VR user will tell you, VR simply doesn’t have that many quality applications to compete with other formats; at least not yet.

Companies Are Still Creating for VR, and It Is Being Applied More Than Ever

Fortunately, many are working on overcoming this software hurdle. Despite the challenges facing the VR industry, companies are still heavily investing in its development. On the face of it, many companies are developing VR games and applications, with the market projected to reach $22.9 billion by 2025, according to a report by Research and Markets. Not only that, but VR is being applied in new and innovative ways, from training programs for pilots and surgeons to immersive experiences for art exhibitions and museum displays.

This Lull in the Market Is Good for the Long-Term Health of the VR Industry

While the current state of the VR industry may seem bleak, it’s important to remember that this lull in growth may be necessary for the long-term health of the industry. The hype surrounding VR and the metaverse has led to unrealistic expectations, and the slowdown in growth could allow for a more measured and sustainable approach to VR development. This can also help to weed out those looking for the next big business venture while truly passionate developers will stick around and continue their work.

Additionally, as hardware continues to improve, VR experiences will become more realistic, immersive and multifaceted, making the industry more attractive to a wider audience.

This, while VR may be experiencing a lull, it is far from being dead. The industry is still developing new hardware and software, even if the media buzz is not shouting about every new advancement. Third wave VR has certainly been a wild ride, from the emergence of cheap VR headsets to the release of some of the best VR applications to date. It is unclear whether this cycle of VR is coming to an end. But, either way, the continuing development of VR hardware and software suggest that the industry is far from over. Meaning that, overall, the future of VR still looks bright.

The Meta Quest 2, formerly known as the Oculus Quest is one the hottest gadgets around. Now VR is untethered and doesn’t need a separate PC to run, VR is now much more accessible. With more and more children wanting to experience VR gaming, I wanted to run down the top 10 Meta Quest games for children for Christmas 2022. I have outlined seven for those under 12’s and three for those around 10+.

Under 12’s

beat-saber

Beat Saber

Beat Saber is the must-have game for VR as it sees players armed with two glowing lightsabers that are used to slice through music blocks in time with the music. The game comes with 10 songs as standard and DLC packs that include around three songs each. There is also a handy editor to create your own beat maps should you want to craft your own. With so many songs to download you will be slicing it up to Baby Shark in no time.

Among-Us-VR

Among Us VR

Among Us VR is a party game of teamwork and betrayal. This VR version of this hit multiplayer game allows 4 – 10 players to complete tasks to hold your ship together whilst One or more random players among the crew are Impostors bent on sabotaging and killing everyone. The cute graphics and cartoon gore match the mobile and console versions so fans of the original game will love the new angle.

moss-book2

Moss & Moss Book 2

Moss and Moss Book 2 are more of your traditional adventure games with added VR elements. You help a brave little mouse called Quill as you’ll both venture deep inside the hexed castle of the Arcane where dangerous terrain, challenging puzzles, and enemies await. Players find themselves moving through the castle and moving items and solving puzzles to help Quill traverse the dangerous castle. Quill is extremely cute and some of the mini-animations will warm your heart.

job simulator vr

Job Simulator

Job Simulator VR is a new edition to the list. It is a fun and interactive virtual reality game that’s perfect for children! You’ll be tasked with completing various office duties in different jobs. You might be answering phones, filing paperwork, and making coffee in one but then cooking cleaning and manning the till in others. With the help of your VR headset and controllers, you’ll use your hands to interact with objects around the office, like opening drawers, picking up items, and pressing buttons.

With its engaging gameplay and interactive features, Job Simulator VR is an excellent game for children who love to play role-play.

paintball-rec-room-vr-

Rec Room

Rec Room is trying to be the Roblox of VR as it allows players to meet and hang out in a VR space. There are also thousands of ‘rooms’ to explore from simple sports games to scary escape rooms. As the content is always changing, there will need to be regular adult checks to ensure the games are suitable, but overall Rec Room is a great place to create yourself an avatar and spend time with friends. To get you started, I recommend your play Golden Trophy, Among Us RR, and Paintball as they all are good clean(ish) fun.

richies-plank-experience

Richie’s Plank Experience

This is probably the oldest VR game on the list but gave my family the biggest laugh over Christmas as its simple enough for the whole family to try whilst the rest of the family laughed at them. The game is really simple, players walk along a plank high up in the sky and have to do tasks at the end of the plank without falling off. The graphics are super basic and the gameplay is limited, but its one the whole family can try.

VR-game-Down-The-Rabbit-Hole-voorzien-van-launch-trailer

Down The Rabbit Hole

Down the Rabbit Hole is a wonderful mish-mash of ideas and there is nothing quite like it on any platform. This interactive adventure sees you helping Alice in Wonderland in a variety of different ways. The games and puzzles are all different enough and petting the Cheshire Cat is very sweet. Down the Rabbit Home has more in common with an interactive book than a game as you can move around the world and pick your path which always ends up at the hub world with the smoking caterpillar. At a little over two hours, the game is short but varied enough for children to enjoy.

fruit-ninja-vr

Fruit Ninja VR

The classics never die, they are simply rebooted. Fruit Ninja VR takes the classic air-chopping game from Halfbrick and gives you swords. The new VR perspective allows players to look around and see where all the fruit actually comes from. It turns out that it’s actually two food cannons off-screen that blast you with a mix of fruit and bombs. Players must swipe, chop and dodge the variety of different levels to achieve a high score and beat the rest of the family. A fun family game but keep any ornaments or breakables away from the play area.

12+

iron-man-vr

Iron man VR

Iron Man VR is a great shooter for Marvel fans. From the moment your Iron Man suit starts attaching itself to your virtual self, you feel like a hero. The story follows you on as you track down Ghost and her army of hacked Dones. Putting your hands behind you fires your rocket boosters whilst using the trigger buttons in front to shoot your hand cannons. The camera is mainly on rails but there is some freedom of movement whilst inside. The graphics are ok and the interactive cut scenes can be a little jarring, but definitely add more depth to the story. Chatting with Nick Fury and Pepper Pots is great but it’s the action sequences that really make this game.

FNAF-vr

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted is the kind of VR game you need to take a deep breath to prepare yourself before playing. Whilst the original game was a masterclass in suspense, it could be argued that the VR version is now the definitive version as it offers the tensest and most powerful scares you can find in a VR headset. It may be difficult to play for very long before your heart rate spikes and it won’t be for the faint-hearted, but as many older Children already know everything there is to know about FNAF, they would love to try it in VR.

vader-immortal-vr

Star Wars: Vader Immortal Trilogy

For Star Wars fans, the Vader Immortal trilogy is a great VR introduction to the Star Wars Universe. The story and graphics are fantastic and meeting Lord Vader for the first time is every bit as nerve-racking as you might expect. The dialogue is well-acted and the detailing on the ships and levels is fantastic. The lightsaber duels are as good as you would hope but work well enough to keep the story moving.

Obviously, there are plenty of other games that look like great fun VR games for children, but I haven’t tried them yet so can’t comment on their quality. Some games that I am hoping to try soon include:

  • The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets
  • Floor Plan 2
  • Zenith: The Last City

What VR games are you considering for your Children, let me know in the comments.

The entertainment industry has invested so much money into improving special effects and the quality of computer-aided graphics. Year on year screen scenes have shown marked improvement. If you compare the quality of Playstation’s Grand Theft Auto 1 to Grand Theft Auto 3, the difference was remarkable. Fast forward to their latest releases and it’s hard to imagine how anyone tolerated their first game. But, without it, the franchise would never have had the resources to innovate and improve game users’ playing experience.

Developments are shared across the spectrum: if animated graphics improve in film, those techniques are borrowed by the gaming industry. Just consider Toy Story’s impact on animation. When gaming companies write programs to make scenes look realistic, filmmakers pay close attention. The entertainment industry is constantly stacking on its developments and one day, it will be hard to tell the difference between game and film.

Good computer graphics is one thing, but what’s the next stage of realistic entertainment? The answer isn’t tucked away deep in your imagination, it’s actually closer than you think. The answer: virtual reality.

Virtual reality lets you immerse yourself in a digital world.

You experience that world as though you are walking in its reality. Whatever you see appears as though it’s actually in front of you. When you turn your head to the left, everything on the right disappears just as it would in real life. Aside from physically touching something, it’s as good as being there.

Then, you have augmented reality, where a digital world is integrated with the real world. It’s like having a digital filter, a lens that lets you see digital graphics in a real place. You could turn your local park into an African safari. You can experience a robot apocalypse in your local shopping mall. Whatever you are into, virtual and augmented reality will have you covered in a matter of time and it’s likely to be sooner than you think.

The VR market is expected to reach $21.83 billion by the end of 2021. By the year 2028, it is expected to reach $69.60 billion. The market will need mass adoption and steady enhancements year on year to achieve that. Looking at the trajectory of gaming and film, it’s believable.

Below are 5 examples in the entertainment industry that will likely drive this market growth and adoption. Read and ask yourself, do you see yourself wearing a headset in the near future? Sure you do.

Live Concerts Experienced though VR

Wembley Stadium has a capacity of 90,000 seats. When Adele performed, she sold 98,000, making full use of the pitch. There is no denying that physically being there is a remarkable experience that you just can’t beat. But, as big as it is, 90,000 isn’t even a fraction of the number of people that would like to go, had they the time or money, and that doesn’t even consider the geographic and spatial limitations. With VR technology, Wembley arena could sell out and still let an unlimited number of people participate at a fraction of the cost of an ordinary ticket. It would maximise ticket revenue and increase fan engagement. No one would ever have to miss out again.

This would extend to every kind of live performance, be it comedy and even live TV audiences. It adds another layer of participation for viewers and revenue generation for hosts in almost every sector of entertainment.

Powder_VR

VR Gaming

Gaming is where it’s at. At the moment gaming is the major player (enjoy the pun) in the VR space and where mass adoption is taking place. Gamers are enjoying virtual worlds, which enhances their experience dramatically. It’s the difference between looking at the screen and being on the screen. If you ever wished you could be little Danny from Last Action Hero, this is probably as close as you will ever get.

Virtual Movie Theatres

Ok, so it’s taking a little longer to catch up, but you know it will get there. You have already enjoyed 3D movies, Avatar being a prime example. The step up from that is Virtual Reality cinemas. Companies are quick to respond to new tech ideas and virtual cinema is one of them. Offering a potential 360 view, and no longer distracted by other film watchers or the back of someone’s head, it will be the perspective of someone standing in front of the scene. You will likely see a lot of film remakes, just for the VR experience. Just think Avengers or Transformers in VR = epic.

Soon, you won’t even need to go to the cinema, you’ll be able to experience it from home.

Late-night Adult Entertainment

Ok, there’s no point pretending. When the entertainment industry finds a new way to please, the adult industry will get in on the action, and actually, you won’t be surprised to know that they are actually far ahead of the box office with several websites like Badoink VR that cater for this niche. The current market for adult VR is already at $716 million in 2021, but it’s set to grow to $19 billion by 2026

So, there you have it. A short breakdown of the future of your entertainment. If you think you find it hard to turn your screen off now, the future won’t make it any easier.

How great is it that professional skill training doesn’t have to involve reading manuals or listening to monotone lectures anymore?

If you have your hand on the pulse of the world of software development, you have probably noticed a major rise in the number of projects involving enterprise training, and especially those that engage immersive technology. This trend was examined by PwC, whose recent report forecasts a 23x increase in workers using immersive tech by 2030.

While the demand for immersive training solutions is greater than ever nowadays, supply is struggling to keep up. The reason for the disparity – obstacles during development. Building training software is already complicated and time-consuming, but adding immersion into the mix adds a whole new layer of difficulty.

Fortunately, you don’t have to go into this fight alone. In this article, we examine why Unity is one of the best tools you can have when building a virtual training application for your company.

Problems of virtual training development in 2021

The problems of training development software are far beyond complex coding or demanding art needs, and the answers to them are also anything but simple. Still, let’s take a cursory look at these issues, leaving room for further exploration in future publications.

1) One company, numerous solutions

Training solutions used to be quite limited in use, so companies would often order 1 or 2 for a particular task or skill. Today, the trend has turned towards businesses aiming to build dozens of training solutions, tailoring them to various branches, professions, and skillsets. This is a big ask for developers.

2) Businesses want their own continuity

With cyberthreats ramping up progressively each year, many businesses are hesitant to delegate maintenance of their applications to the third-party studios that developed them. They prefer to provide maintenance in-house, yet often struggle with finding enough full-time specialists with the expertise and rates they want.

3) Focus on visuals has shifted to experience design

As training programs have advanced, so have requirements for their creation. For example, today’s developers are under pressure to closely replicate real work experiences (e.g. every step of repair, from opening a toolbox to conducting a fix to putting all the tools back). The increase in required content leads to an increase in required work hours.

4) Deployment should be smooth and fast

It has become a top priority for developers to provide quick deployment on numerous devices, and are expected to deliver instant integration of completed solutions: upon completing the creation of a training program, a build should be automatically generated and made accessible to a select few users.

5) Frequent iterations

Given the complexity of training solutions, it is difficult to create specifications for them that cover all relevant and possible interactions. These specifications cannot be taken as gospel, and developers should be prepared for multiple rounds of revisions throughout the process based on client feedback.

How these problems are solved with Unity

You can make leaps and bounds towards solving these issues with the right planning and business strategy, but it will all be for naught without robust tools at your disposal. One such tool is Unity, an engine with a massive ecosystem of integrations and wide-ranging support for various platforms and devices. It also has some of the best assets available right now.

The thing about Unity that makes it a great fit for this line of development is the ability it grants to easily create custom frameworks and application logic for use during development. Let’s examine how this advantage (and others) can help you overcome the pressing issues listed above.

1) Multiple training solutions through automation

Though individual simulations in company-wide training solutions might be different in mechanics, they have similar elements. When developing various training solutions, having a custom Unity framework focused on these common elements will allow you to quickly generate scenarios for individual simulations, requiring only minor tweaks.

2) Built-in tools for continuity and security

Without a doubt, Unity developers are among the most plentiful groups in the programming community, so companies with solutions on this platform can easily find staff for secure continuation of projects. Notably, Unity also supports tools and systems that follow the most up-to-date security guidelines and strictly delegate project roles/accesses.

3) Keeping experiences accurate with unified libraries

Though there is no getting around the need for complex and accurate user experiences in a simulation, the development time can be drastically shortened with libraries of common elements (among different simulations). This system, along with Unity prefabs and nested prefabs can allow you to spend more time on the creation of unique experience elements.

4) A cross-platform behemoth expediting deployment

Unity may not be unique in its support for various devices and operating systems, but it stands out in the sheer diversity of support. This should be appreciated by any cross-platform developers on your team. For example, immersive simulations are supported by top-notch tools like VRTK and MRTK.

5) No need to start from scratch with each new iteration

Some might see the iterative approach as a nuisance, but a custom framework can make it manageable. If you plan to reuse old elements and models, it will allow you to do it in minutes, as well as grant the capability to accommodate multiple corrections before a vertical slice is presented.

Is Unity a “must-have” choice?

Certainly, Unity is not the only engine with a broad and versatile ecosystem, and you don’t need to make the choice alone. If you work with a tech partner, you can also ask them for a technical evaluation before any coding happens. They might choose Unreal Engine 4 as the best tool for the project, and might even choose to go next-gen with UE5.

Still, there is no doubt that Unity is one of the most powerful options available for enterprise training software. The freedom and ease that Unity grants in creating custom frameworks are simply spectacular and worth the hype. If you have a large project requiring lots of iteration/reuse of code or content, be sure to consider this top contender.

Developed by SIE London Studio, Blood and Truth was released in May 2019 and it consists of a first-person shooter game for PlayStation 4 Virtual Reality. According to SIE London, the game is based on cockney gangster movies and it was inspired by several Hollywood movies. So, let me explain how it works. The player will be granted the identity of Ryan Marks, who is a Special Forces soldier who has to save his family at all costs from a London Crime Boss. The idea is to use different guns in order to kill the enemy the best way possible as well as interact with different objects.

Blood and Truth is a virtual reality game for those who love to get into the adrenaline and adventure of killing and defending your family from enemies. You will be shooting while you jump from one roof to the other, crash a helicopter that is chasing after you or while you drive a car at a very high speed. This is what makes the game so exciting. So, as I mentioned before, the excuse is that you are part of a very big and wealthy family and you are being chased by a criminal. The good news is that this game will allow you to move freely while you enjoy the cinematic experience that the designers of the game worked on for years. Not only do you feel like you are actually shooting a gun, but also you will experience explosions and other incredible visual action, that will actually make you feel that you are inside the game. That is the beauty behind virtual reality. The game is divided into 20 chapters that will take you more than an afternoon and you will be able to decide where to move and which gear to use.

blood-and-truth

It could be said that Blood & Truth is a kind of game like James Bond. It provides level games from the center of the city, where buildings and cars give a great reality, to casinos, where slot machines, roulette table and poker game show the players the real life of a casino. During the game, you will always be able to control the main character and choose which path to follow to continue the story. This will, of course, make a longer game. What’s interesting about this game is that we will be able to experiment with what the character is actually doing.

PlayStation VR has turned three years since it was first launched and today there are more than 4.2 million PS VR viewers sold and the numbers keep increasing worldwide. Blood and Truth is one of the greatest examples of hard work. Designers at London Studio worked on the game for more than two years and the results are outstanding. The action game is intense and spectacular. It makes you feel as if you were actually inside an action movie. All you are missing is a big bag of popcorn to really give you the feeling you are watching a very exciting action movie full of incredible visual scenes and shootings. It is almost as if you were in a James Bond movie, the kind of movie like Casino Royale. Just as the classic movie, Pulp Fiction, the game does not offer a chronological structure. The game unfolds after an interrogation of the main character and that is how we go back to one of his missions as a soldier and then little by little, you will be getting into the main story behind the game, when Ryan reunites with his family. All of the characters in the game are super detailed and expressive; this makes the game’s atmosphere feel very real and you actually feel that you are inside the game. The 20 chapters that the game is divided into are very different and in some you are just a spectator of the game, you are not required to pull the trigger or hide behind objects and this really makes you feel that you are watching a film. Another interesting fact is that you can carry a gun in each hand and decide which one to use depending on the situation. As I mentioned before, the main character can use other objects inside the game such as a rugby ball, a roulette table and a safe deposit box. There is a very interesting gun personalization system according to the character’s needs or the mission he is into. Blood and Truth is not a simple or short game, on the contrary; it is one of the best action games released in the last years and one of the best experiences you can have with Virtual Reality. If you want to add some adrenaline to your life you have to try it.

We’ve all been hopeful of a world where Virtual Reality environments enable us to enjoy interactions in the digital world. Whilst we can’t say that we’ve got to the ‘holodecks in Star Trek’ level of Virtual Reality, we also can’t deny the availability of useful augmented reality and virtual systems. While the technology is still growing, it’s seriously impacting the world of online casino gaming.

In the online casino realm, we’re witnessing a redefinition of the modes of interaction between people, made possible by Augmented and Virtual Reality. Most iGaming fans have taken interest in live casino gaming in the past years. The live casino games that players can gamble on at casino sites found at www.newcasinosuk.com afford gamers the opportunity to interact with real live dealers somewhere.

With what we see in gaming devices like the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, we now have an idea of how AR and VR can change the face of gaming. These technologies could help live casinos by allowing people to interact with the casino games and other players in a digital space. Most betting & casino sites that are interested in embracing cutting edge technologies and offering the same to their customers are embracing this Virtual Reality.

vr-casino

It may be necessary for us to differentiate between Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality:

Virtual Reality allows you to interact with a world that is entirely virtual or digital. This will throw you into an environment that looks like the real game environment, but none of those environments are actually ‘real’.

In Augmented Reality, the existing environment is simply augmented as the name implies. It involves the placing of virtual objects in a real world environment. One of the games where the Augmented Reality system is properly used is the Pokemon Go.

This could be addressed as an ‘infant’ technology in the online casino world, but a lot of platforms are already applying VR. In some casino websites, users are allowed to enjoy slot games in a virtual world. The meaning of this is that players can enjoy a very huge immersive interaction with the title they’re playing on and top notch high definition graphics.

What the Future Holds

VR will take a more central position in the online casino world in the future, providing more immersion in game playing. We may enjoy full virtual online casinos in the future – the type that you can attend and move around in. However, VR technology can offer something similar to this to some degree, even though the entire idea still feels like film tricks to some people.

A closer look at the AR system will help us unearth better ways to use it in online casinos. For instance, you can have a virtual roulette wheel at the center of your living room. This will give you and your friends the chance to interact with casino games whenever you are with them. With the Haptic Feedback Device systems, you’ll be made to feel as if you are touching the digital objects in the virtual world.

Current Drawbacks

Like every infant technology, AR and VR are far from being available for mass consumption at the moment, especially when it comes to the online casinos. What we have for now are the VR Head Mounted Displays. On the downside however, they demand a whole lot of computer power and can cost a whole lot of money.

At the moment, the service we enjoy from the virtual reality systems in online casinos are not too advanced, even though we believe that the system has the potential to bring in advanced changes to the sector.

In the meantime, while casino venues keep experimenting with the technology, and as the developers continue to innovate it, there would be a huge increase in quality in the near future. It amazes us to understand that there’s no limits to what the Augmented and Virtual Reality can give us. So, the future look and feel of online casinos due to VR and AR is something we can’t imagine for now. The only thing we can attest to is that the future is hugely bright.

We find ourselves on the precipice of a gaming evolution. The big players in gaming such as Sony, Google, Microsoft and Nintendo, are developing new technology to make more interactive experiences through virtual reality (VR), holograms and motion detection. These changes will not only reshape the video games we play, but it will also spread to other gaming experiences. The future of online casino games looks to change, as many companies are looking to pioneer this technology, in order to give players the most immersive experience to date.

VR video games will be the first step into this brave new world. The travel industry, online training, and of course, the porn industry are eager to utilise the new technology. Let’s take a look at three different technologies and how they might alter the future of gaming.

oculus-rift

Virtual Reality

The Oculus Rift initially got people excited about VR back in 2012 and now four years on, it promises exciting virtual reality experiences for both the PC users and the Xbox One (eventually). Released close behind the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive was developed by HTC, in partnership with Valve and enjoys Steam support and a vast library of titles.

In October, Sony will release it’s own Sony VR headset that will cost much less than it predecessors. However, the announced cost is for the headset only, and will require users to buy a separate camera and two Sony Move controllers. The games list for all these headsets is growing every month with titles such as Eve: Valkyrie, The Gallery: Call of the Starseed and Adrift getting gamers very excited for this new technology.

facebook-360-camera

Facebook Surround 360 Camera

First Facebook announced that it was buying the Oculus Rift and less than twelve months later, they announce the ‘Facebook Surround 360′, A production-ready, high-quality 3D-360 camera that seamlessly merges the video from 17 different cameras. The first application of this technology will be to create 360 films and video, but utilising its partnership with Oculus, I expect we will see a resurgence in games that use video content. Years ago I remember playing Night Trap on the Sega CD and later playing Wing Commander 3 on the Panasonic 3DO. There is no reason why this style of game could see a revival to offer gamers a different experience to that of 3D graphics.

hololens

Microsoft HoloLens

The Microsoft HoloLens project aims to merge your digital world with the real world, by projecting digital elements into your real world view. The initial demos have shown Skype windows projected on walls, watching Netflix on a fully resizable screen, weather widgets that sit on your kitchen sideboard and 3D design programs manipulated by the users hands. Whilst all this looks very cool, the most exciting moment was when we saw Minecraft projected on floors and tables. The HoloLens version of Minecraft allowed the player to see their world from a whole new perspective. The HoloLens offers players a more diverse experience, as games could be played on a flat 2D projected screen, or games could be developed to place game objects in the real world crossing the boundaries of reality. Imagine having shadows move around the floor or hands curling around your living room door. Very scary but very exciting.

The future of gaming looks to twist our understanding of reality, be it with virtual reality or augmented reality, and with the help of 360 video and motion control such as the Leap Motion Orion, the future of gaming looks very bright.

The concept of virtual reality is by no means a new thing, but good virtual reality most certainly is. We’ve all been waiting for the time when VR would do what it was intended to do, scare us, entertain us and most importantly, astound us. Previous attempts to launch virtual reality into the world of online games and applications have been less than successful, but consumers are being told to get ready for bigger and better soon to be released VR which will not disappoint. According to media reports, 2016 is the year that will see the introduction of brilliant virtual reality in the form of Oculus’ Rift headset, HTC’s Vive and Sony’s VR for Playstation 4. Gaming is really where the interest for all things virtual reality lies, but what exactly are the implications for online gaming now we are on the cusp of a VR revolution?
oculus-rift

Oculus Rift, alongside the hand held Oculus Touch, according to its developers, promises to “raise your game”, allowing you to step into your favourite game joining gamers world-wide during your journey into virtual reality. The Oculus home page is quite convincing in its spiel, stating that “Rift’s advanced display technology combined with its precise, low-latency constellation tracking system enables the sensation of presence – the feeling as though you’re actually there. The magic of presence changes everything. You’ve never experienced immersion like this.” If this is true, I’m in! The implications of such technology is astounding, as by not only providing an entertainment platform for gamers that enjoy the thrill of VR fantasy games, but by inviting those who enjoy online gambling and casino games into the world of virtual reality, a wider audience can be reached. Already online casinos are going from strength to strength, but imagine what VR could do for players looking for even more realism? For example, Coral’s Poker site has been getting rave reviews for its ability to recreate the thrill of in-person gaming, but by bringing the concept of virtual reality to the table, a user’s experience will surely be enhanced. As perhaps the most social and interactive of all casino games, poker has the chance to shine through the use of a VR headset such as the Oculus Rift. If a major online gambling site such as Coral looks to unleash its visually exciting games into the world of VR, users all over the globe could enjoy an even more realistic gaming experience from the comfort of their own homes.

htc-vive

As winner of Best New Tech and Gadgets at CES 2016, The HTC Vive is a highly anticipated VR headset. Like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive promises to completely immerse the user in the world of online gaming. It is also highly practical, allowing you to switch between VR and reality through the use of a front facing camera, and also allows the user to switch between apps and games without having to remove their headset. Whether or not these VR headsets will prove as remarkable as their developers claim is yet to be seen, but there is another aspect to consider whatever VR item you purchase – the price. As like most technology, the first release of successful items will be expensive but as for which product provides the most value for money, it appears this would be the Playstation 4 addition. This piece of VR tech simply requires the device itself, and the Playstation 4 which retails at around £300, whereas the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive need some heavy duty hardware, in the form of a purpose-built gaming PC costing around £1000, to make them worthwhile. However, the chance to get your hands on some pretty impressive VR is certainly tempting and if they really are as good as they have the potential to be, this new technology could change the way we game forever.

The primary aim of the virtual world is to let us escape our own reality and so far, we have found apt ways of doing so, with both console and pc gaming providing hour’s of synthetic enjoyment. As successful as this part of the industry is there seemed to be a craving for something more, something that would take gaming to the next level, to quote Tron, something that would put us in the game grid. Although the Tron concept stands a little farfetched, if it were possible, it would sell and sell big.

What I’m referring to is virtual gaming. Now, we’ve had snippets of virtual gaming with the likes of Playstation move and Xbox Kinect – although some may consider them not be virtual gaming- nothing has been produced to break the mould and make the user feel as though they are actually in the game, until now.

The coming year and the years to follow I assume, the virtual gaming industry is set to take the gaming market by storm, most notably, Oculus Rift. Beginning as a start up funded by the generous gaming community of Kickstarter, the prototypes tested so promising that the company was snatched up by Mark Zuckerberg himself.

oculus-rift-field-of-view

To those who have been living under a rock, Oculus Rift is a headset which pits the user as the protagonist within the game. Admittedly, the idea is awesome and better yet the reviewed developments kits have seen nothing but praise. This is all great, but what affects of Oculus Rift will we see in the real world?

The most practical and somewhat silly consequence we can expect, are; accidents. Yes, accidents. Imagine being blindfolded, deafened and left in front of a monitor, well, to some extent this is what virtual reality is. The headset leaves you incapable of seeing anything else aside from the game and with the amount of multiplayer options available it is likely any moderate-core gamer will be wearing headphones. Expect many broken objects, the odd injured family member and lots of tripping over things.

Socialising and gaming have been in a constant battle since the beginning of time. With argument posed, those who spend to much time gaming lack social skills or would prefer to game than socialise. The argument is plausible, but obviously differs depending on the individual, however, could putting those individuals who do personify the argument in touch with a piece of virtual reality further strengthen the case? To some gaming is their life, but with Oculus Rift, it could become their reality.

mirrors-edge-oculus-rift

Before you conclude that Oculus Rift is the devil, in need of a good smiting, it’s time to consider some of the more positive worldly affects. Using the Rift as a base, the Anxiety Management Virtual Reality Platform is in the works, which utilises the realism of the hardware as a treatment for phobias. For example, those afraid of heights, can be put at the top of a virtual building, until results have been seen and the process can be transferred to reality. Similarly, Zuckerberg has talked of the impact the hardware could have on education, where students can visit the museums and landscapes of the world from the normality of the classroom.

The Rift has also been said to potentially redefining the bridge between technology and medicine. The possibilities remain endless, but the idea which has gained the most shock value, is visiting your GP or doctor, without leaving your home. Despite the buzz, this looks to be an evolutionary process, with overhauling needed in both the medical field and patients technological equipment.

All the worldly affects aside, you’ll still have a kick ass gaming experience. Oh and a little nausea.
